Valisome
Thought I’d share about the medicine that cured my Dad’s eczema about
25 years ago. He had a severe case and unusual in that it was on the
palms of his hands. After several years of trying unsuccessful
treatments, a doctor prescribed Valisome for him, and his eczema
disappeared within a few days. I don’t anything about Valisome, like
whether it is still used today or if they later discovered it was
unsafe. But my dad still talks about this miracle cure with great
appreciation.

What your Dad probably had on his hands is called pustular psoriasis. It’s
what I have on my hands and feet. Are you talking about Vasoline? I was put
on the most potent steriod there is, and it really wasn’t providing much
relief. For some reason one night, all I put on my hands was Vasoline. And
since then, my hands (and now feet) have been much better. It’s been far
from a cure, but it’s much better than it was.

If it worked, it’s probably ‘unsafe’ and off the market. Or am I just cynical?

I don’t think it was psoriasis, because he had had eczema off and on
since childhood on his eyelids, neck, arms and legs. It was his
worst case when it extended to the palms of his hands. It definitely
was Valisome and not vasoline (though my mom recently used vaseline
to clear up the rashes on her hands from washing dishes). Valisome
was a prescription drug from a dermatologist. I think it might even
have been samples. I don’t know why it didn’t become more popular,
because doctors had given my dad every sort of treatment and then
Valisome cleared him up within a few days.
