thanks everyone-eczema diet…

thanks everyone, i wrote a few days ago asking about eczema diets,
thanks sooo much i never would have known where to start with cutting
out foods…i am allergic to almost everything though i only had the
skin test when i was little…i was a terrible eczema kid, so don’t
worry moms, it clears up eventually i think i am just a weird case, i
was fine for years until now… uh oh now i am stressing out about
the prednisone, its NOT tapered!! what does that mean?? when i walked
into the doctor’s office, i thought at first that i was just allergic
to the cloxacillin another doc had given me for the infection of the
scratched eczema… i took one pill of prednisone a bit late today
and my skin wasn’t as good as it was yesterday..holy crap though i
don’t think my skin has been this perfect for years, that stuff
really works… should i really try to cut food out?? i c an’t do it
oh my god my mom has put me on her chinese version of the atkins diet
which is even worse than atkins itself…

Oh dear - the Chinese Atkins!! I don’t think so! (Other chinese
treatments such as their herb/teas might be good though)
Just remember that you skin is an organ for cleansing the body like the
kidneys - and so something like a high-protein/meat slimming diet would not be
    a
    good idea.
Keep everything simple. Bowels open. Drink water and juices.
    Think cleanse…. Love Jan

Anyone that has been of prednisone knows that "tapered" means it will start
at a high dosage then starts "tapering". My doctor has me on a round of the
steroid which starts at 5 for 3 days, then 4 for the 3 days, then 3 for 3 days,
2 for 3 days and 1 for 3 days until they are all gone. Prednisone is very
good for the duration of the treatment but in my experience my symptoms always
    come back

I also been on Prednisone and it is good but not anymore on me. As
I’ve been on for quite a long time and my skin got worst and I never
had that problem before. That why my doctor put me on Methotrexate.

Glenda what exactly is Methotrexate? Is it a steroid? And since you have
been on it have you noticed a difference?

    hi terri,

Methotrexate is a tablets. Methotrexate is most often "heard about" as
an anti-cancer (anti-neoplastic) drug, and it is an "antimetabolite"
but is specific to interrupting the synthesis phase in a cell’s cycle.
Actually, it binds to an enzyme needed to manufacture "purine," which
is one of the base groups used for forming DNA and RNA. Since the
purine building block is locked out, the cell cannot manufacture a
complete set of nucleic acids. Therefore the cell cannot proceed to
the final growth phase and progress to mitosis (cell division) — such
a cell will have no progeny and its own life span will soon become
crippled with old age since it wont be able to "repair itself."
This is the logic and expected performance range for methotrexate, so
its application goes beyond treating only cancerous tissues. Other
conditions where there is unwanted cellular proliferation can benefit

from treatment with this extremely powerful drug.
Under the big tent of eczema, psoriasis (severe) can often be tamed
with small doses of methotrexate. And, also pertaining to the skin, it
can be used effectively to treat very advanced (and recalcitrant)
    mycosis fungoides.
It is also sometimes very effective in treating rheumatoid arthritis
if it is both severe and refractory (nonresponsive to other, kinder
treatments). It’s in this context that I often have to work with the
drug. Some patients do remarkably well with the medication; others do
not. Because of its manner of action, the drug is indirectly
    immunosuppressive.

So far, I am not sure what is happening but I’m still itching and
getting fructration. And also we are in Winter season and my skin is
getting too dry. I spoken to my doctor and said that it will take
quite a while to react. So i have to wait and see. If it doesn’t work
then I will stop. BUt first see what happen. Hold thumbs for me!

    Glenda
