hey everyone-protopic??
sorry i missed the post, what is protopic?? im off the prednasone and
my skin is so bad again!! im trying to just use the atarax
(antihistimine) to calm things down..the thing is after the awful,
awful rash on my face, my skin gets so dry it looks like crepe paper,
and i am seriously getting wrinkles… i recover a bit, it dries out
and flakes while healing,t hen it just goes rashy again..
i am thinking it is my diet, i am on this horrid chinese atkins diet,
basically a version of a keto diet, that some bodybuilders
use…anyways, since i want to lose weight and work out and get
enough protein everyday, im on this keto type eating pattern, in
which 80% of your calories come from fat!! and a bit of protein, and
low, low carbs… some of the bodybuilders i have seen post that
their skin is actually less dry than usual… the thing is the diet i
am on now isn’t actually a diet, its more like, ok ill only eat meat!!
@! some complaints with ketogenic diets have been dehydration…
im wondering if anyone has found that a keto or high fat diet has
helped, it seems like the majority of you cut out foods like meat and
go vegan and swear the eczema has gotten bette.r.. pls help oh my god
my skin hurts it is so dry… i live in a dry climate too, in the
mountains, so maybe that is a part of it…

I would like to say that I experienced a few years of
very bad eczema on my face — where my forehead and
other areas looked like raw meat. I never thought the
wrinkles would go away — but they have cleared up
almost completely.

thx, but how did you get better?? my skin on the face is just
likethat right now… the only thing that seems to help is steroids,
what did you use?? did it get better, and how old were you then if i
may ask?? thx… i am thinking intense amounts of exercise might help
for some reason, it seem to clear things up alot… but i usually
feel so crappy from my face being so dry and raw feeling that i don’t
do anything at all, just sleep… the raw food diet thing still
scares me a bit, how many calories do you eat ina day?? no offense
but i have a few friends who are vegetarian, near vegan and they
always seem to have a really unhealty cast to their skin, are glassy
eyed, and just washed out looking… though they run marathons too!!
and seem to have alot of energy, they just look not very vibrant
though healthy…

protopic is the brand of a sort of new drug found to be a good
alternative to topical steroids. Like, steroids, they suppress the
immune system to control inflammation on the skin. They fall under the
category of drugs known as immunomodulators, which have been used widely
in the past for organ transplants, since they need to suppress the
immune system to avoid rejection of the organ by the immune system. They
have found that if applied topically, the drug does not absorb below the
dermis layer and into the blood stream, unlike topical steroids, so it
does not cause the side-effects related to drug absorbsion like steroids
do. However, it is known that there is a slight burning sensation which
takes place when the drug is applied, but as far as I know that feeling
is temporary. I have not tried this drug myself, only read about it. You
may find more resources on this drug, if you search for "protopic", or
"tacrolimus".

hey thanks…are you a derm?? my facial e has come back, and i found
a message on the eczema listserv that i am also subscribed to… i am
wondering is it possible that i have roseacea as this woman also did?
is this very common (rosesea??) my derm is fully booked and i have to
wait another month, so i want to ask my gp for the following meds
that she got…
minocyline 50 mg,
metrocream .075%,
cutivate ointment??
in the past my gp put me on 50mg prednisone for 10 days, plus atarax
i think, as an antihistimine, and an antibiotic, since i pick opent
he sores on my scalp as stress relief and then they get infected,
then the facial rash comes on and event eh antibiotics don’t
help..thus the prednisone….sorry to be so gross and graphic but i
am jsut so itchy and need help!! what the heck is going on?? on top
of this, the skin AFTER the rash, prednisone, etc. gets so dry and
dehydrated that it hurts more than the rash…. i bought a steam
facial spa the other day and it seems to work, swimming too… the
spa thing really helped though, but im panicking becasue i have no
prednisone left… i read some people also use antifungal creams too
for the face, can anyone think of any?? my skin is still painfully
dry and i read of soemthing called an MD rehydrating mask,as well as
a Supra peel??? any help would be much appreciated…

I’m 36. Vegan is different than raw in that vegans are
eating cooked starches - rice and probably bread.(Not
to mention cooked veggies.) Bread is like glue in your
system. Cooked rice , etc, turns into basically white
sugar in your system.
Keep in mind that going 100% raw is intense. Your body
chemistry changes and there is a period of "detox".
My computer fan went out so I have to turn my computer
off before it overheats. I’ll write more later.

My nephew uses Protopic for his eczema and it seems to help quite a bit. I
believe it is a product similar to Elidel which is a similar product from a
competitor. Both are non-steroidal.
