Dead Sea
I went to the Dead Sea in 1999 and my eczema went away for a year and a half! I
went to the water one, not the mud. Ahava is the official "dead sea mud company"
which is based in Israel. You may want to try their products:

Wouldn’t the salt in the water irritate the skin even further? Especially if
you have cracks? I am all for finding ways to calm my ezcema but this does
sound a little far fetched?

well, actually, salt heals. However it might sting a bit in the cracks at
first, like when water hits a sunburn in the shower.
But salt also dries out like crazy.
I don’t know.

Well the ocean helps some people with more mild skin problems, it’s about 3 %
salt content. The Dead Sea is 33 % salt, and as such it is very thick, almost
like an oil. It cannot be ingested, and you have to eb very careful when you go
in.

Terri,
With eczema, your skin might become very irritated by the salt water.
You would only be able to stay in a very short time, the rinse off, then wash
with soap and water, then moisturize.
Don’t you feel methotrexate is far fetched as a treatment for skin conditions ?
By the way, I think eczema is all related to nerves, - what is your feeling on
this ?

Maria,
You are probably right about eczema being a result of nerves. But in these
trying times what can one do? Even when I think I am calm or the things around
me are calm I still break out. Like right now I am not bothered by the rash
or the oozing bumps but the dryness is killing me. I have gone through the
course with my eczema, which is the bumps, then the dryness, pain, my skin
peeling. Currently I am on antibiotics for the infection I have from the
scratching. I have a dr’s appt this thursday in which I will ask the derm.
about a
couple a meds that a few of the members have mentioned.
I have been dealing with this problem all my life but the last several years
I have been battling it constantly and over all by body is the dryness which
makes life unbearable at times. And I have tried many products and spent much
money on pills, creams, ointments and I am tired. Sometimes I think that all
the products I have tried have made my condition worse, which gives me plenty
of stress.
But I will hope for the best

I had severe acne as a teenager, and I remember living in Spain and going to
the ocean in the summer and my skin completely cleared during the time I
spent in the sun and salt water… different skin condition, same theory….

Hi Terri,
I feel bad for you; it sounds like eczema is as bad as psoriasis.
Re: the dryness, we have this problem even with psoriasis, especially if it is
extensive.
I take a long bath everyday, in order to soften the scales which will eventually
fall off. After that I dry off just a little, and apply moisturizing lotion or
cream, which ever one your skin feels most comfortable with.
This routine helps to keep my psoriasis essentially flat and quite thin. I do
not have thick plaques of psoriasis. The daily bath also prevents me from going
into the painful skin thing. If I don’t keep this routine up, then my psoriasis
gets worse, is painful and it thickens.
It is truly a nuisance this skin problem !
Now I want to ask you if your skin falls off as a shower of light powdery scales
or how is it ?
I sometimes think I have eczema and psoriasis.
I get extensive rash like eruptions, like blotches on my face. I know the
grass and pollen make things worse, but I just do not know what is going on.
Any thoughts on this ?
Maria

Maria,
I think eczema and psoriasis are closely related. Everything that you
described with your skin condition sounds just like mine. I do go through a
course
with my skin which eventually ends in the skin peeling. My skin is so dry
that if I scratch it does flake and looks like powder. I have been diagnosed
with ezcema so I guess I don’t have psoriasis so there must be a difference. I
have a dr’s appt with a new derm. thursday and I am hoping this dr. will make
the difference for me.
I will let you know if anything is done different or suggestions made to
improve my condition.
