Irritation of scrotum with Protopic

I’ve been using Protopic on the front half of my penis for about a
week and the sensitvity, discomfort and progressive thinning of the
skin (atrophy) went away almost immediately. Within a few days,
however, I started to develop a painful irritation on the skin of my
scrotum. Thinking this could be helped by (and not caused by) the
Protopic, I applied it to all the red areas. The situation only got
worse. I finally decided to see if the Protopic was the cause and
last night and this morning washed it all off in the shower. The skin
of my scrotum had become very irritated and sensitive to any touch.

In order to eliminate contact in the future I took an athletic
supporter and cut a hole just long enough for my penis to stick
through under my underwear. I then applied Protopic. This system
prevents the Protopic from getting on my scrotum. It’s been several
hours and so far no recurrence of the discomfort. I hope this solves

the problem. (There is no mention of any side effect like this in the
product insert).

It may be coincidental but I had switched from Ivory to Dove bar soap
for sensitive skin on the day when I first noticed the irritation.
Has anyone had any negative experiences with this product?

I know as a woman I am very sensitive to certain soaps in the genital area. I
recommend using Dr. Bronner’s line of soaps as they contain NO SOAP. The
peppermint is really nice for the summer…gives your skin a nice tingle. You
can get it at Whole Foods or on-line using Dr. Bronner as search through
    www.google.com .

Thank you for the feedback! It just seemed too much of a coincidence
that my irritation started on the same day as I switched soaps.

I agree this stuff is nice. Another nice thing is to
add a few drops of high quality essential oils to the
bottle. Since itching and open wounds are an issue for
me I like tea tree, eucalyptus, and walnut in
particular for their anticeptic properties. I usually
dilute Bronners too by pouring half into another
bottle and filling the rest with water.

This stuff is nice to wash dishes with too because
    it’s gentle.
