"Pull scales out"

That’s what my 3-year-old says, and points to her hairline. Poor
thing. She has these crusty scales in her hair that, evidently, itch.
I’ve tried medicated shampoos and shampoos with tea tree oil. I’ve
tried putting olive oil on her scalp and letting it set before I wash
her hair. The drs. keep telling me it’s seborrhea (sp?), but no shampoo
meant for that condition does any good. Every time I comb her hair, big
flakes come off.

She also has eczema. It used to be severe, but now that we’re avoiding
certain foods it has improved. She has fungal problems on her feet,
though, so I combine the steroid cream with an anti-fungal there. Could
this problem in her hair be fungal too? Can I put an OTC anti-fungal on
her scalp, or will it do something weird to her hair? Any other
suggestions/ideas?

Thanks for any help…

Becky

    Hi Becky,

One thing that has given me great relief for my scalp is a prescription
called Derma-Smooth. It has a peanut oil base and you apply it to the scalp
at night and cover the head with a shower cap, and leave it on overnight.
It gets rid of the scales and greatly reduces the itching.

Dawna, thanks for the tip, but Sarah is DEATHLY allergic to peanuts, so
I’d be afraid to use it. She had an anaphylactic reaction to her first
exposure to peanuts, and if we hadn’t already had an epi-pen because of
an egg reaction, we probably wouldn’t have made it to the hospital with
    her on time!

I, too have tried Derma-Smoothe and I love it! It is prescription, though. And
I believe it has steroids in it. But it does wonders!

is Derma-smoothe steroid based? Has anyone had a topical foam (steroid) called
    clobetasol propionate ?
