Eczema…which vitamins/minerals to try?
Hi!
My son is 8.5 months old and suffers from severe eczema. We have
tried creams, lotions, meds, etc. They have "helped", but I’m
waiting for my miracle drug!
We are currently using Locoid cream (sparingly) on the red spots.
He takes Atarax to help with the itching. I just HATE giving these
things to him b/c I don’t know what actual harm they’re doing to his
body.
I have been researching the benefits of vitamins/minerals for
eczema. But, I don’t even know where to start. I have heard that
fish oils, evening primrose oil, and flax seed oils are all good
things to take.
Should I give him all of those? Should I try just one?
I would never give him anything without asking the Dr., but I would
like to not sound like an idiot when I ask her about them!
Any advice is much appreciated.
By the way, he has been going through allergy testing. The only
thing we have found so far is that he is allergic to eggs. HE does
not currently eat anything that has eggs in it.
Thanks!

Hello,
My name is Michelle and I am a mother of two wonderful children. When my son
was a few months old he developed eczema on his legs. I did not think anything
of it and it disappeared with some Vaseline. Later he developed it on his arms
and his doctor gave him Elidel (which has been linked to causing cancer). I did
not like using it on his skin, but really thought nothing of it because I
assumed what I was given was okay for my son.
Anyway, I decided to stay home with my babies and start a home business. I have
partnered with a wellness-company that provides products which are 100% natural
(no toxins or skin irritating substances). I am now learning about the toxins
we use in our homes for everyday cleaning and bathing. I used Johnson & Johnson
on my son because I was familiar with the brand and it smelled great. The
commercials advertised their brand was made for babies, but looking back now,
the eczema on my son’s arms developed after I started to use their product.
This product uses Q-15 which is a formaldehyde and this has been linked to
cancer.
I started using Renew Lotion which contains natural ingredients. Within 1-2
wks, the eczema on my son’s arm disappeared and has not returned. I am so
thankful that I found this product because it is natural! There are countless
testimonies of people who have used this and have been cured of eczema. I have
also used this on diaper rashes too!
If you would like more information, please let me know.
Kindest Regards!
Michelle

Hello, sorry to hear about your child with Eczema… I have Eczema and so does
my 5 yr old son.. I can’t stand these people on here who just are out to make a
buck… and to think the last person started off by saying.. I am a Mother..
blaa blaa blaa….. Give me your money and I will tell you what I think….
Anyways, regarding Eczema, I believe you have to come up with a individual plan
for your child.. My son and I are allergic to lots of things, food and
enviromental and it is a challange to avoid all… but regarding the Minerals
and oils, I took flax seed oil and evening prim oil and I broke out in small
pimple like sores.. My skin was more lubricated, but now I was broken out… so
I backed off and tried the salmon oil… same thing happened.. I still am using
the salmon oil (trying to use it up) but I don’t take very much of it…
Unfortunately, there is not a miricle cure yet… Currently, as you have found,
it is mostly trial and error regarding treatments. You have to find what works
the best for your child and stick with it… However, I belive diet and
avoidance work best…
Oh, if you haven’t read yet, soaking in sea salt baths work good when broken
out…
God bless..

I’m still working on that. Any more advice would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Lori, it has taken me many years to figure what I am allergic to, what causes my
eczema to flare up (still learning) and what is the best method (for me) to use
to try and deal with it…
Now, I am trying to figure out the same with my son… My son is different than
me because he has some of me and some of his mother in him… So, what works for
me, might not work for him…
For me, I can mostly control my eczema with diet and stress management
techniques (exercise and such)… similar with my son.. With my son, he has
"grown out" of some of his eczema from when he was a toddler… We have been
giving him sea salt baths and that has really seemed to help him out the most in
helping his outbreaks…Most dermatologists advised we would "grow out" of this
condition but I am still waiting. (I am 35)
Regarding diet, the closer to the foods natural state, the better… I try and
avoid all processed foods and sugars.. (try) This is very hard when we live in
the fast food society we do.
Regarding creams and lotions. I have tried many of the ones on the market and
most just irratate my skin more and cause me to itch.. One dermatologist who I
respect, told me to use crisco. it works ok but kinda messy… I have tried
olive oil as well but tends to clog the pores and I break out with pimples.. I
did try Protopic, but I am limiting the use due to the FDA info…Mostly, I try
and avoid putting anything on my skin. For me, I would rather be a little dry
and scaley than to be itchy from the lotions and creams.
Also, you might want to think about your water you use for bathing… I am on a
well and I had it tested and there are a lot of clorides in it.. This causes my
skin to dry out more and just adds to everything else..
Laundry soap, types of clothing (I am allergic to wool) are just some of the
other things that might be causing the issue..
Like I said, you have to look at everything about your child’s living conditions
and evulate what the issue(s) might be. I really hope your child grows out of
it and can live a life without the issues and concerns with eczema.
Good luck and God bless.

Dave-
I totally agree with everything you’re saying. I’m becoming very AWARE of my
son’s environment. I believe that his eczema is partially food allergies and
partially environmental. I think there is something he’s ingesting that makes
the eczema flare up. But, he also has VERY sensitive skin. We use All Free and
Clear detergent. He wears 100% cotton clothing.
I had thought about the water. We live in town, so have city water. But, I
have heard that there can be a lot of fluoride in that, too. We use a purifier,
but I guess I don’t know if that gets all the fluoride out or not. So, just a
couple of days ago, I started making his bottles with distilled water. But, I
do still bathe him in the regular water. What would you suggest doing for
that??
I, too, hope he grows out of it. It is so frustrating and so hard to watch him
itch.
Thanks so much for your advice!
Lori

Here here! I agree. We can all smell a sales pitch a mile away on this list.
As far as your symptoms go, sounds to me like you guys need a liver cleanse.
Reacting to fats in this way and allergies in general are all symptoms of a
congested liver. The skin is an organ of elimination and the liver can dump some
of its load on the skin if it is unable to perform its functions. One of which
is fat metabolism. Once the liver is functioning better, you won’t have to avoid
so many foods and allergens because you simply will not react to them any more.
I used to have severe dust, pollen and mold allergies (I had to get allergy
shots every week and they wanted to do sinus surgery) and they are all gone now
that my organs are clean. Th Dr Clark cleanse is the best one I’ve found. It is
best to cleanse your organs in this order: colon, kidney, parasite, liver.
Cleanses are cheap and easy and they make a world of difference. Trumans CAC
colon and liver cleanser is a great tincture to start your program with. Take a
bottle of that along with lots of apple juice (or malic
acid caps if you have sugar metabolism problems), fiber and gold coin grass and
you will see amazing results. The apple juice and gold coin grass also work to
help soften and dissolve any "stones" that may be in the liver or gallblader so
they slide out easily. After this colon cleanse, you can move on to doing a
kidney cleanse and getting the parasites out of your body. Then you can flush
the liver (only takes a day) because you won’t get good results from your liver
cleanse if there are live parasites in it. Try this and see if your "allergies"
don’t disapperar! I will send you my wellness protocol if you’re interested.
Just let me know.

I don’t mean to sound skeptical, but why of the numorous doctors (allergists,
derms, MD’s) mentioned to me that all I needed to cure my eczema is a good liver
cleaning? I have never heard such a thing…What does it involve?
What documentation and/or documented actual case files with peoples names can
you provide to support your statement? I would like to see the info…

Dave, if the MD’s, allergists and derms have all told you that ‘all you need
is a good liver cleanse to get rid of your excema’, then I think you have
come across some rare professionals in the medical arena. Send them over
here to Australia!!LOL
Jo.
Excuse me for butting in here Dave & Carissa.
Dave: Dr. Sandra Cabot (Australia) has published a book re: Liver Cleansing
that includes diet suggestions.
In the book there are pages of letters written to Sandra from people who
have tried the liver cleansing diet and tell how their own doctors are
amazed that most test results after the cleanse are now within normal range
and the patient’s health state is no longer in danger. Even major illnesses
have disappeared!
I’ve tried the diet myself (am on a 10 day detox right now, sort of similar)
and my skin looks good. For me a liver cleanse can get rid of symptoms of
rosacea but I have to stay on the diet to keep the symptoms away, which are
redness, burning, itchiness and severely blocked pores. If I eat junk and
drink alcohol, then exfoliator and tea tree cream can control the symptoms.
I think the Liver Cleansing Diet does a lot of good for the body.
Many doctors don’t believe that it is necessary to cleanse the liver as it
regenerates it self continually. Maybe so, but doesn’t it need a break from
toxins to get on with the job properly. In my opinion it does, just from my
own experience.
Dave, if you’re interested, try to get the above book somehow. Maybe ebay?
It’s pretty good and written by a medical doctor who since med school,
wondered about liver function and health. Her grandfather saved her
grandmother’s life. She had been diagnosed as having a fatal condition and
sent home to die. The grandfather made up fresh juices for her to drink
everyday (they didn’t have electric juicers in those days so you can imagine
how hard it must have been) and the grandmother, day-by-day visibly came
back from near death and went on to live for years. I don’t think Dr. Sandra
Cabot would risk her medical reputation by making all this stuff up.
Sorry this is long.
Jo.

The best way for you to read about how liver cleansing is helping people is on
the Cure Zone forum (www.curezone.com) You can also learn about the specific
methodology from Dr CLarks books or websites. www.drclark.net Just click on Info
Section, and you will see the full liver cleanse protocol posted there, for
free, no prescription or office visit needed. There are plenty of case studies
in her books and on her websites for you to read, and you will find many more on
the cure zone forum. Your gut will tell you what is right or wrong if you only
listen.

I’m definitely going to try the cleansing. Since last Monday I have trying a
yeast-free diet. Unfortunately I got sick (the flu) because EVERYONE at my
job is getting it so of course it’s my turn! Anyhoo, I have noticed I am not
1/2 as sick as I usually get. I have been taking Acidophilus since Monday
and have noticed I am not as bloated and gassy. My bowel has been acting a
lot "nicer" also. At first I had to go a lot (perhaps cleaning me out) but
that was just the first 2 days. Also I bought many fresh veggies and made my
own dressing with Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Cold Pressed), Balsamic Vinegar
and some Good Seasons Spice packs. (Look at the ingredients-some have whey
in them) (Mild Italian is good) (It’s very good~ not acidy at all) Since I
absolutely LOVE bread I am eating Garlic Matza (no yeast in Matza) instead.
It’s hard but I feel much better already. I am also a chocolate addict and
have been cutting down.
I suppose the magic word is "weaning". I have to wean myself off foods.
I hope some of this helped someone!

and my skin looks good.

Carisa,
I don’t mean to sound skeptical, but why of the numorous doctors
(allergists, derms, MD’s) mentioned to me that all I needed to cure my
eczema is a good liver cleaning? I have never heard such a thing…What
does it involve?
What documentation and/or documented actual case files with peoples names
can you provide to support your statement? I would like to see the info…

I have been having flaxeed oil capsules twice daily
for around two weeks and my bowel has been acting
"nicer" as well. the condition i am trying to fight is
my acne, (which is still the same ), but at least my
digestion has marginally improved because of the
flaxseed oil..
FYI !!

I have seen some improvement in places where I have
psoriasis since I changed my diet 3 weeks ago. I have
a celery and apple juice in the morning - I put celery
stalks and green apple into a blender so I get the
pulp as well. I have a full lunch which usually does
not include meat and another pint of juice in the
evening.
It is not as drastic as a pure cleansing diet but I
see some improvement in my skin condition.
One other "remedy" recommended to me was that I should
drink 2 litres of water first thing in the morning
when I wake. I tried that for a few days and it was
quite hard. My friend who suffers from Eczema swears
by this. If you continue for at least 5 days, your
skin should clear.
Hope this helps!

I don’t really know if it will help your son’s
condition but keeping off all dairy products will
lessen the condition. He can have soy products
instead. Downside is that he will not put on as much
weight as he would if he were on formula.
You may also not want to bathe him so often. Wipe him
down instead - it is less drying.
You can try that and see if it helps.

I agree with less bathing. It is important to build the acid mantle on the skin
to protect from infections and to help fight the eczema. I would use Dr Bronners
Aloe Baby Mild soap to wash, and then rinse with filtered water (no chlorine)
with a little ACV to adjust the pH. Then, put a thin coat of coconut oil all
over to help re-establish the acid mantle and avoid dryness. This should really
help. It is especially helpful for diaper rash.
You may also not want to bathe him so often. Wipe him
down instead - it is less drying.
You can try that and see if it helps.

Where would I get spirulina? Can I get that at a health food store?
