Mum’s Rant. (Baby with eczema.)
Hi, I a mum of a 7 month old baby boy with bad eczema.
It covers his entire body and was recently so bad on his face that
he looked like he’d been burnt. I have been under a lot of pressure
to treat him with steroids, but so far he has only had minimal
applications to his face.
I am really sick of being blackmailed by the medical profession -
forced to accept treatments and procedures for the ‘wellbeing’ of my
baby, and if I decline they say I’m causing him to suffer.
I had a lot of anti-biotics in pregnancy and after the birth against
my better judgement. A difficult birth because I was railroaded into
accepting medical intervention I didn’t want. He had his jabs too
because I was assured they were safe for him. Now I wonder which of
these things could be to blame.
So far I have been given steroid cream and a sedative medicine to
make him sleep. I have been told not to apply any kind of vegetable
based oil (such as olive or coconut)as it could be irritant. The
creams he has had prescribed are full of chemicals! The doctors
sneer at the mention of herbs and homeopathy. I’m beginning to think
that the pharmaceuticals, the doctors and the petro-chemical
industry are all in it together, ripping us off and keeping us ill
to line their pockets!
I am trying to do what I think is right but feel so undermined. I
want him to get over this and feel somehow that applying steroids
will only prolong the process of healing. Am I mistaken?
He is seeing a homeopath but it is difficult to implement any other
forms of holistic treatment as he is so young. Can I give him
flaxseed oil I wonder?
Glad I have found this group, have been seeking info on treating
eczema with alternative medicine but to no avail. ![]()

Hi Liz,
Sorry to hear about your little one! You are right, some doctors only want
to give you prescriptions. Most of them don’t know much about natural cures
so they just snub their nose at them. Have you tried changing his diet? Is
he on formula? A lot of people with skin problems seem to be allergic to
certain foods. Any kind of gluten (bread, yeast, etc) could be a problem.
The anti-biotics may have triggered it.
I recently went on a gluten-free diet(for about 2 weeks now) and have
noticed my eczema isn’t as flaky. I just started to put Extra-Virgin Cold
Pressed Olive Oil on my eczema and it definitely soothes it better than any
of the other prescription and non-prescription creams/lotions I have tried.
If you get Olive Oil make sure you get Extra Virgin Cold Pressed. It’s not
as sticky and heavy as regular Olive Oil.
If you are breast feeding you may want to go on a gluten free diet because
it may help him. The Dr.’s can give you all the prescriptions they want but
even they will tell you they have nothing to cure eczema. I hope whatever
you try helps! Good luck!

I know how you must feel! So much pressure to comply with the Chemical Monster.
I would encourage you to simply stay away from all allopathic doctors. Find a
good naturopath that understands your feelings. I would be happy to send you my
wellness protocol as well. There is plenty you can do for him at his age. Just
email me if you are interested. I also have an ecaema and psoriasis protocol
that you can easily follow with him since you control his diet. Please be
encouraged that we can help!

Would please send me these protocols, also? I’m also a mom of a 3month-old baby
with bad eczema…I’m breastfeeding her, and doctors want me to stop, because
they feel that she’s allergic to something in my breast milk.
Thank you! Meivy

Carisa and all,
I would love to see your eczema and psoriasis protocol, or anything that can
help.
My son (5 months old) has severe eczema all over his poor little body. They
are not even in patches anymore–there is more eczema than there is healthy
skin. When his skin is dry, I call it a good day. On a bad day, it is oozy
and weepy and bloody everywhere.
I breastfeed exclusively. He had a RAST food profile test, which showed a
moderate allergy to milk and eggs, as well as borderline allergy to wheat
and corn. I eliminated all these things for a week, but there was no
change. I then eliminated everything but boiled beef and rice and raisins,
and there was no change. Then I switched to only turkey, squash, and
potatoes–I think there was a subtle improvement here. But all in all, I
was on the elimination diet for 3 weeks, and there was no significant
change.
My husband feels very strongly that I should stay away from restrictive
diets to give him maximum nutrition. If my son is going to break out
anyway, he might as well get some nutrients from it. So I now eat
everything except dairy and eggs. Once in a while, I might allow a little
butter.
I’ve tried all manner of creams: eucerin, aquaphor, aveeno, desitin, etc.
I have tried Elidel, but it burns him. Sunshine seems to help keep his skin
from weeping. I stopped using Elidel so I can put him in the sun.
The only other thing that has helped is my taking lots of evening primrose
oil and fish oil capsules. He seems to break out less when I take them, no
matter what I eat, even after I have a dab of butter.
I am experiencing some pressure from friends to put him on a soy-based
formula, and pressure from our family physician to put him on steroids. It
is getting harder and harder to justify why I won’t do these things if they
can help his suffering.
If anyone can offer any suggestion, I am open to trying anything short of
formula and steroids. Thanks.
Helen

Hi Liz,
I’ve just found this group and I’m in exactly the same situation as
you. My 7 month old boy has eczema quite badly and I’m coming under
increasing pressure to give him steroid creams. So far I’ve resisted
but it is so difficult when you know that they are judging you as a
mother - and they clearly don’t think that you’re doing the right
thing. (although most people outside the healthcare profession I talk
to think that I am doing the right thing!)
We’ve had limited success with homeopathy so far, I’m now looking to
increase the dose in the hope that it will continue to help. We’ve
tried all sorts of different oils and lotions - there is a Tisserand
baby massage oil that you can get in Waitrose (Baby Bliss) which
contains borage oil and seems to help. I also use a blend of
calendula and jojoba oils with lavender, roman chamomile, rose
geranium etc. that a friend makes up for me. We also manage the
weepy patches on his face with Sudacrem (works wonders!) and I use
the Fucidin cream when there is infection (not the one with steroids
in it).
This week we’ve discovered a seaweed powder that you add to the bath -
and I do feel that this is having an effect (fingers crossed). He’s
been having baths morning and night and I also make him up a face
pack. I can feel the difference on my own skin where my hands have
been in the water so I do feel that it is having an effect. Just a
shame that I really can’t stand the smell of seaweed - never have
been able to! - it sometimes makes me retch!
We’re also using acupuncture - I have the most wonderful practitioner
who I met when I was pregnant and I would trust her with anything. I
can’t say yet whether or not it is effective but DS loves the flower
essences she also prescribes (they are given in cognac!).
I have a question for this list - when my GP is trying to undermine
me does anyone have the details of any research that shows how safe
or not the steroid creams are? I’d like to be able to show her that
my mistrust of steroids is based on more than just my instinct.
Thanks
Kate.

Hi Liz and Kate,
My baby had eczema really bad and my doctor prescribed steroids. Not wanting to
take this route I found Melaleuca and the Renew lotion has cured him from this
skin condition. They also have a melagel that clears psoriasis. It is an
International Wellness Company and their prices are compared with Walmart. Their
website is www.melaleuca.com Let me know if you want more info.
Have a wonderful day!

Vaseline, ) I keep her cover so she won scratch (long sleeves, and pants all
the time). Do not use detergent on baby cloth just hot water should be ok. I
