Diet and stroke - Carissa

I thought about this for ages, but I would like to ask Carissa for some
advice rather than possibly run around in circles for a year or two (as
could happen searching for advice). It just feels weird to me to ask someone
for free advice! Hopefully I can repay in some way.

OK, for 20 years I didn’t eat meat (not for health reasons), very, very
little chicken and sometimes fish. Didn’t go to any great lengths to make up
for protein or essential fatty acids lacking in diet. Smoked cigarettes the
entire time. Had times of eating meat, such as pregnancy.

Anyway, at 41 years old, met a new partner and his food choices took over
because he likes to do the cooking. (He has psoriasis severely BTW). Since
then have eaten a lot more fat and packaged foods etc, foods I wouldn’t
usually bother with.
4 years later - after going through extreme stress as well due to having

very gifted son in mainstream school and partner’s narcisstic personality -
I don’t feel well and I had during 3 of those years smoked heavily and drank
way too much alcohol.
Haven’t smoked now for 1 year and haven’t drank alcohol for 4 months.

Then (I think at a stressful time - it seems to be ongoing) I had a migraine
for 5 days, getting progressively worse, lots of aura happening, and I had
a small stroke in the cerebellum. That’s just over 3 months ago and I would
say I’m 80% recovered, and eye sight back to normal.

About 6 weeks before the stroke, I went on a 2-week detox, just one of those
pharmacy bought kits. Stopped coffee and tea, dairy and sugar, went onto soy
milk.

A neurologist put me on aspirin (I take daily) + Verapamil that I stopped
taking about 1 month ago because I didn’t like it. My blood pressure was not
high when I had the stroke either.
I have not had any migraines since, but I get headaches that I think are
from chronic sinus infection.

My diet now (my own choice) is low fat. No more red meat at all. And I have
been eating lots of liver cleansing foods and recipes from Dr. Sandra
Cabot’s book. But I notice that my rosacea is trying to come back and my
scalp oil is becoming rancid very quickly. It wasn’t like this on a higher
fat diet. I feel flat and tired most of the time.
But I want to have a healthy vascular system and not have to take high blood
pressure medication to relax and increase the diameter of veins, arteries
and even the heart. I am scared that a stroke might happen again with
permanent and long term disabilities - I think the damage from this type of
stroke is accumulative, so it might take a few more strokes to really do
permanent damage, but then who knows. It’s a bit scary anyway.

I just think there is something lacking in my current diet (I do drink
coffee with sugar). I nearly go to sleep when I eat bread - wheat flour or
rye; if I eat sugary food I get tired; a hot chocolate nearly drops me to
the floor.

Anyway, that is it basically. Sorry this is long but I’d appreciate any
advice or thoughts a great deal.
Don’t know if it helps but I have a strong constitution of Irish/Scottish
ancestry. I have been told that according to my Iris, I prove to be one of
the last of that genetic code I guess, my type have been bred out. Does that
make sense, I haven’t described it that well.

Thanks for reading this and I really look forward to hearing from you,
Jo.

It sounds like you are beginning to discover that it is vitally important to eat
right according to your own unique metabolism, not according to what newspapers
and tv tells you is healthy. For example, soy milk is not a health food at all.
If bread and sweets put you to sleep, you may be a protein type. However, you
will need to take a survey to figure out what type of metabolism you have before
you make any plans on changing your diet. The full version is available in the
book, The Metabolic Typing Diet. Wonderful book. I agree with much of what is
said. You can also take a mini-version of the survey for free on Dr Mercolas
website at www.mercola.com, It is not as accurate, but will give you a general
feel for your metabolism. After you know what types of foods are healthy for
your unique biochemistry, you can make better food choices based on the
information in my Flower of Wellness protocol. I would suggest you start with
cleanses as described in the program. Liver and colon
malfunction are the main culprits with skin problems.
As for the stroke, do not believe any dietary recommendation doctors give you

for avoiding vascular disease. Most are completely clueless on the subject of
nutrition. Rather, find out your metabolic type, and then email me and I will
give you a list of health promoting foods and foods to avoid. After all, if
Inuit have survived on incredibly high fat diets of seal meat and blubber with
no heart disease, how can we say there is only one healthy diet for all people?
Determining what your body needs will get you healthy again and free from the
anxiety of another stroke. Living with the fear of another one alone could be
enough to make you sick. Your mental state is very important.
The chronic sinus infection is probably caused by unhealthy dairy products and a
systemic candida infection. They are finding now that these chronic sinus issues
are fungal rather than bacterial in nature. There are many ways to help combat
candida, but one of the best I found was taking coconut oil and drinking kefir.
Nothing works better, in my opinion.

One of the few supplements I recommend to everyone is Carlsons cod liver oil or
fish oil. It is one of the best sources of Omegas around and in the most
bioavailable form. It is pure and tastes really good because it’s not oxidized.
I also recommend spirulina for everyone because it is so nutrient dense, easy to
digest (for anyones metabolism) and free from allergens and irritants. I also
highly recommend you get a good quality reverse osmosis ater filter (like the
ALkablue) and drink plenty of water each day. After all, you are detoxing.

As far as pre-packaged cleanse programs, I’m not a fan. Pretty much anything you
find in a drug store is geared for profit, not quality. A good colon cleanse is
Trumans CAC. I would combine it with Super Seed fiber supplement from Garden of
Life. That will be a good start and a good primer for your parasite and liver
    cleanses.

    Carisa,

You mentioned that you could send a list of protein foods - I’d appreciate
    that, I have no idea.

Last night and today I’ve had, so far, 9Xfish oil caps + 2XFormula 33SE and

    Thank you,

Hi, Does anybody know a good brand of Cod Liver Oil?
How much should I take per day?
    Thank you for the input!

  6. Millard Hahn Says:

Carlsons is the only brand I would recommend. It is the purest and freshest I
have found. A teaspoon a day is plenty.
