Eczema and Athlete’s Foot

Does anyone know if someone with Eczema could be more prone to
Athlete’s foot? Both my son and I have eczema and have the signs of
athlete’s feet. They say it is caused by feet being wet and sweaty.
Well our feet are far from that, very dry. I have tried the antifungal
RX’s in the past but no help. I only gave it about 2 weeks and didn’t
see an improvement. Maybe I didn’t give it enough time. Unfortunatly
we have to see military doctors and they don’t know very much. Does
anyone else have these problems. I can deal with mine but my son’s
feet itch so badly and nothing is taking away the itching. I am not
sure if a 2 year old can get it. Anyone have any ideas for me and my
son?
Thanks, Karena

Thanks for your advice Nikki. This has been a terrible
morning for us. My son was itching his feet like
nothing else. I have been trying all morning to stop
the itch. I washed and applied 1% cortisone, no help
still itching. I washed and tried aloe, again no help.
I even gave him Benedryl, no help. I just got skin e
dip cream and I figured I would give it a try. I put
it on his feet and then dampened some socks and put
them in the freezer for a few minutes. They were
freezing and he was mad but since then he hasn’t
itched once. Wow, I think that skin e dip might have
helped. I will keep everyone posted on some more
results about it. It also seemed to help the redness
after his bath last night. Maybe anyone would like to
    check it out… www.skin-e-dip.com

I have tried the olive oil soap but didnt like it for
us. I am using All free of dyes and perfumes laundry
detergent. Is there something else I should look into?
So, you all know we are in the military and we live
overseas in Japan so a lot of things are not readily
available for us so anything I can purchase on-line is
    the best.
Thanks for all this support it is helping me so much!

The all detergent does not work for my family. Can
you get anything that they sell at a health food
store? Mountain Green has a baby sensitive skin one.
There is another one that I will look up for you too.

I’ll be looking forward to talking with you on
    messenger.

We plan to, but we have to work out the time
difference in Japan. I think around 9:00 in the
evening here in INdiana is morning time for Karena.

Athletes foot isn’t caused by wetness. Wetness can INVITE and set up a favorable
environment for the fungi that cause athletes foot, but it isn’t the root cause.
Nor will keeping your feet "dry" keep you from getting it. It is simply caused
by fungi that take advantage of a weak immune system and skin that is left
vulnerable. I would use coconut oil (anti fungal) with some tea tree and/or
lavender essential oil added as a foot lotion. You also need to add a good
quality probiotic (like Primal Defense) and cultured foods (like kefir) to your
diet to make sure your flora population is balanced. This will prevent the
overgrowth of the candida and other fungi and bad bacteria and will set up a
strong defense against not only athletes foot, but all infections.
Here’s a recipe for your feet:
    1 ounce Nutiva coconut oil
30 drops Melaleuca or Young Living tea tree oil. Use lavender instead if you are
    senstive to tea tree.

Rub this on the feet morning and night. You can even use tea tree oil straight
or in higher concentrations if you can tolerate it. Instead of washing your feet
with soap, use Miessence sunshower body wash. It will not wash away the
protective acid mantle on your skin that fights infection. If you want, you can
simply rinse and wipe your feet with a water and vinegar solution and that would
be even better. Go barefoot as much as possible to get plenty of air circulation
and keep the feet as dry as possible. Powders will make your feet "feel" dry,
but all they do is absorb moisture and then hold it there, allowing the fungi to
proliferate in a layer of moistened powder. I would avoid them. Exposing the
feet to the sunlight is also a good idea for both the eczema and the athletes
    foot.
You will need to be tenacious as foot fungus and especially nail fungus are
stubborn and take a while to resolve. Just keep at it and you will see good
    results.

I use plain old Arm and Hammer washing soda mixed 50/50 with 20 Mule Team Borax.
Sometimes I add some baking soda tot he mix as well. This is as pure as it gets.
It is very effective, your clothes will feel really soft and it works. No need
to buy expensive ‘natural’ detergents. If you want, try Seventh Generation
laundry soaps. They are more expensive than the homemade powder, but they work
    well and are pretty pure.

For detergent I recommend you seventh generation, if is for your baby just use
hot water, if they are very dirty use a little bit of detergent, but rinse

Use a therapeutic grade of Tea Tree essential oil to
and apply it consistently over a 30 day period of time.
    __________________________________________________________________________

Add Olive leaf extract to the diet.
Try bathing or wiping your feet with a solution of 50/50 alcohol and
    apple-cider vinegar.
    You can use Lamasil.

    ____________________________________________________________________________

Soak the feet in a bucket of warm water, with 2 cups of milk kefir added to
the water. Soak the feet for about 20 minutes in the warm kefir/water bath.

Dry feet well, and then apply a little vetivert [the oil of "Vetiveria

zizanioides"] pure essential oil rubbed over the toes, and in-between the
toes including forcing a little oil under the toe nails. Put on a pair of
white cotton socks, and then go to bed. Repeat in the morning. Repeat
procedure until all sytmpoms are gone for up to 3-5 days.

Vertivert pure essential oil is one of the best choices that I have found to

treat fungal infections of the feet and nails.

  9. Jamie Deleon Says:

Thank you Carisa I would like to try this. Can you
direct me on-line where to purchase the tea tree oil
and coconut oil. I live in Japan and don’t know of any
heath stores and if I did I wouldn’t be able to read
the products. I searched for the items on-line but I
want to make sure I buy the best and what you
recommend. Is the coconut oil also a anti-fungal oil?
Will this help my nail fungus also. How long should I
expect to see results? If it is not athlete’s feet and
just our eczema will this treatment help also?

    Thank you for your advice.

  10. Millard Hahn Says:

You can find just about everything on eBay, and for cheap. That’s where I get
most of my Young Living oils. I am not a representative, so I don’t have access
to the wholesale prices. You can also buy direct from their website at
www.youngliving.com. You can buy melaleuca brand tea tree oil at
www.melaleuca.com. and I suspect you can find it on eBay as well.

Coconut oil is not intrinsically antifugal. However, when the medium chain fatty
acids in coconut oil are broken down by bacteria on the skin (or by salivary
enzymes and stomach acids) these free fatty acids are what have the
antimicrobial properties. So, if you are using harsh antibacterial soaps and
constantly washing off the acid mantle on the skin and washing away the good
bacteria, coconut oil will not have as great an effect as when you leave the
good bacteria on the skin and let them do their job along with the coconut oil.
If you don’t have athletes foot and it is eczema, this treatment will be helpful
    anyway.

Hi Carisa, I read that a couple of drops of eucylptus
oil while washing my son’s laundry can help to fight
    allergens. What do you think?

  12. Lionel Madonna Says:

    Karena,
It might be "pompholyx", not Athlete’s Foot. They look similar, so some
doctors can’t tell which is which. Pompholyx is a kind of (atopic) eczema
on hands & feet and not caused by the fungi.

    Carisa,
These are great ideas that I never thought of. I just put some tea tree oil
grapefruit seed extract, and lavender oil in my laudry room cupboard to use
starting with the very next load. I understand that grapefruit seed extract
is a ‘must’ for traveling where one needs to sterilize their drinking water.
I’ll have to try the lavender in water as an anti-histamine too.
    Thank you.

  15. Millard Hahn Says:

True, GSE is good for sanitizing water, but it leaves your water with a very
bitter taste, almost too bitter to drink. I recommend a few sprays of Silver 100
to sterilize drinking water and lots of coconut oil in the diet if you are
traveling. The silver takes care of bacteria, viruses and fungi in the water
while the coconut oil gets rid of many parasites as well as bacteria, viruses
and fungi. Coconut is what many native people use to avoid things like malaria
and all sorts of exotic illnesses.
