what works for me for exczema
I’ve been meaning to get a list together of what works for my brother and I, and
her it is. Hope it helps.
Avoid skin contact with chemicals/cleaners of any sort.
Avoid liquid soaps, deodorant soaps, dish soaps, and anything "Ivory". Dr.
Bronners, glycerine, avino, and anything moisturising are less harmful.
Get regular aerobic exercise.
A salt bath or soaking the affected area in salt solution helps decrease
swelling. Swimming in the ocean is great, too. Wish I had one nearby.
My brother has a carbon filter on his water softener, and he swears by it.
(Removes chlorine)You can get a full system for around $500 on ebay, or you can
get just a shower filter at most hardware stores.
I put petroleum jelly on my hands at night. Then I turn canvas gardening gloves
inside out and wear them. They usually last for a few weeks before they get too
scuzzy.
Not eating wheat helps me. Eating good, healthy food in general seems to help,
and a big salad every day is an even bigger help. (I avoid iceberg lettuce
becuase it’s got no nutritional value.)
MSG makes My Skin Go away.
Claritin helps. Allergies exascerbate.
face: Eucerin, and take it easy on the shaving.
Having a health frame of mind helps, but sometimes exczema seems to kick you
while you’re down. Turn off the TV and read a book.
multivitamins seem to have some effect.
dancing helps.
If you’re a guy and you have a chafing problem, covering it with an appropriate
sized sock can help prevent chafing and help hold in moisturisers. No more
biking in boxers!
A humidifier helps in the winter.
Learn to recognize possible signs of fungal infection and treat with athletes
foot medicine.
I drink a Thai herbal tea that really seems to help. (Mixed Cha/Thai Style
Herbal Tea/Ing: Cha Thai, food colouring FD & c yellow #5, star anise
seed./Bells & Flower Brand.) This one might just be my crazy imagination
because I haven’t heard of it anywhere else, and I have no idea of the
ingredients names in English. If you can find it, it’s super cheap at Asian
groceries.
I remember my grandmother telling me when I was 5 or 6 years old about the
importance of regular bowel movements. I thought she was crazy, but 25 years
later…
-Yes, I’ve learned all this and I’m not even crazy yet. Best to all. I’m
having Prissy Pig and Daniel Giraffe over for a tea party in a half hour. I
hope my pesky neighbor Teddy Cheetah doesn’t ruin it all, agian.

Be a little careful with humidifiers. Many people with eczema are
allergic to dust mites, and dust mites love humidity. So, this can
create a self-perpetuating problem. Also, since many children with
eczema are more likely to develop asthma, and dust mites can be a
trigger, this is risky for kids. It does help the skin, but might be
simply firing up the immune system on another level!

Your idea about the tea reminded me of something a Vietnamese woman
told me that they use to treat eczema - take a raw egg in the shell
and put it in a jar. cover it completely with vinegar and let sit for
4 weeks. Pour off the vinegar and use the insides of the egg like a
cream. It is unimaginable to my Western mind, but she swears it works!
