Is anyone out there?

It has been a few days since I heard from anyone.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I had a doctor’s appt. this morning and
since my condition if so severe, the dermatologist did not recommend light
therapy but place me on a drug called Methotrexate. I want to tell you that I am
very afraid because even after the doctor told me of all the side effects, I
came home and did a little research on my own and what I learned scared me. Has
anyone out there tried this medication?

This sounds very serious and like a pretty heavy-hitting medication, from what I
read on the NIH site. What did you doctor tell you about the side-effects?

Yes I did. I have psoriatic arthritis as well as the skin condition. I was
on it for about 2 years and got up to about 25mg. Yes it is scary
reading about…but it is more unpleasant than scary once you are
actually on it. When I was on it I felt quite tired and the day or
two after I would take it I would feel quite nauseas. My hair did not fall
out - this is one of the possible side-effects. I did get mouth ulcers at
times, and you tend to be more susceptible to warts and other niggling
health concerns as it is supressing your imune system. You can’t drink
alcohol and have to get liver tests (blood tests) once a month or so. I
had no problems with my liver luckily. It did help alot with my problems
but I would probably advise it only after you have tried more natural
alternatives. This is not something you want to take, as damaging your
liver will actually make your psoriasis worse long term.

I stopped taking it and actually have done a detox diet including

liver, bowel, intestines, stomach. etc…. this is slower but probably
better in the long term. I am also getting hair analysis tests and other
tests to get to the cause of the problem not just cover it up….

But if you have tried all this and it is very severe then do not be
scared - it may help get it under way and then hopefully you can come off
it…you can always stop taking it if you get any severe side-effects.

    Hi

I am very severe at the moment too, but can still have light treament, which
starts next week. I really didn’t want to take those drugs either. so I
have also been to a homeopath. I have been taking the drops on my tongue now
for 4 days and already I have seen an improvement. I’m getting more and more
    hopeful everyday.

Maybe you should try this path too, before you start to take the toxic
    variety.

    Kind regards

Why not try the methods outlined in Pagano’s book "Healing Psoriasis"? They have
    helped many and are harmless.

I started Methotrexate about 4 weeks ago. I’m still
on quite a low dose (10mg per week). I see the doctor
tomorrow for the results of the past 4 weeks blood
tests. I seem to feel ok so far! A friend at work
has had psoriasis for years and he has been on
Methotrexate for about 2 years now. He seems fine
with it and actually says it helps his psoriatic
    arthritis.

Don’t be scared - all we can do is try it and see how
it does. If it doesn’t agree with you you can always
stop taking it - after all you’re in control.

I know it can really get you down at times, but try to
stay positive. A really close friend of mine has

psoriasis too, he had pustular psoriasis on his hands
and feet (I’m lucky I only have it on one foot and one
hand!!) - he took Methotrexate and is now in remission
and has been for almost 2 years.

Remember, we have psoriasis, but it doesn’t have us!

    Take care!
