scalp psoriasis?
Coconut oil works on mine. There is a scalp tonic from Superdrug (a UK chain)
which helps keep it away and is not too greasy. Another is a prescription
ointment called Cocois.
I see there is a UVB light wand on the market now, for scalp psoriasis and
also for small plaques.
Has anyone tried it|?

There is a prescription scalp treatment called "DermaSmooth" that works real
well for me. It’s in a base of peanut oil and you put it on your scalp at
night, cover with a shower cap and shampoo out the next morning. A little
messy, but it works. Good luck.
Hi, I am new to the group. I have been battling scalp psoriasis for
years now, and nothing seems to work. It will go into "remission" once
in a while but always comes back with full force. Currently my doctor
gave be Clobetasol which is a steroid and I shampoo with a selenium
sulfide shampoo every other day. This has not been working, and I am
at my wits end, I find myself depressed over this as my hair has
thinned, and I cannot wear dark colored shirts because it is "snowing"
on my shoulders. ;( If anyone has any recommendations on what worked
for them, please share with me. Thanks, Happy Holidays!

I had scalp psoriasis a while back, I started to lose
my hair in patches. I used "Polytar" shampoo, which I
got from Boots the Chemist, for a few months and my
scalp is now clear and my hair has grown back. Give
it a try! Good Luck!!

I tried shampoos with coal tar for my scalp eczema but it did nothing but
stink up my hair. That stuff smells awful.

I HAVE PSORIASIS AND UNFORTUNATELY MY 13 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER HAS NOW DEVELOPED IT,
WITH MUCH MORE SEVERITY THAN MINE EVER WAS. HER SCALP WAS SO INVOLVED THAT SHE
TOO LOST APPROXIMATELY 50% OF HER HAIR. WE HAD TRIED ALL OF THE PRESCRIBTION
TREATMENTS, WITH MUCH EXPENSE AND LITTLE TO NO RESULTS. WE FINALLY DITCHED THE
DERMA SMOOTH AND STARTED APPLYING VIRGIN COCONUT OIL ONTO HER SCALP EVER NIGHT
BEFORE BED. IN THE MORNINGS SHE WOULD WASH IT OUT WITH PENTRAX. IN ABOUT A 6-8
WEEKS THE DIFFERENCE WAS UNBELIEVABLE. SO MUCH SO THAT OUR DERMATOLOGIST WHO
SEAMED VERY "ANTI-HOMOPATHIC" TOOK DOWN ALL OF THIS INFORMATION AND NOW
RECOMMENDS IT TO HER OTHER PATIENTS. WE STILL USE PENTRAX EVERYDAY OR SHE
BECOMES FLAKEY BUT HAVEN’T HAD TO APPLY THE COCNUT OIL FOR ALMOST A YEAR NOW.
SHE IS 95% IMPROVED. GOOD LUCK TO YOU.

-Hi I also had what i thought was scalp psoriasis for years and tried
all the shampoos. I have a friend who is a toxicologist and he
suggested it may be my scalp was very sensitive to chemicals. As a lot
of the specialist shampoos have heaps chemicals he believes it probaly
made it worse. He thinks especially the ingredient sodium laureth
sulphate is a terrible ingredient(contained in most store shampoos).
As suggested i tried a herbal natural shampoo called Alchemy. What do
you know my scalp is much, much better. It is not completely cured but
the itching has reduced considerably and there is far less flakiness.
I see alot of people suggest coal tar shampoo but if u have a
sensitive scalp this can also be too strong. Also if ur using steroid
product on your scalp be aware steroid creams eventually thin ur skin.
I know from experience as many years ago my doc prescribed it for my
eczema good luck

I used to get eczema on my scalp and neck…but then discovered I have a
chemical sensitivity to Isothiazolinone, synonyms are methychloroisothiazolinone
and methylisothiazolinone. These are common in many hair care products. I
have frizzy curly hair and use lots of products and used to always try new
things, but now I lookout for these chemicals and avoid them. I don’t get the
eczema on my scalp anymore and hardly on my neck. I still have it on my hands
though. Surprisingly this chemical is in many baby wipes. I have found some
without it though. Also, surprisingly, Eucerin products have this chemical as
well…..

I was upset to find that my Nexus shampoo I had purchased recently
("Therappe") has methychloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone. This
stuff was expensive! I also noticed some of the products at the drug store
had these in them. I think I am going to order some of that Alchemy stuff.
Thanks for the info everyone!

I know what you mean, I had gotten this expensive set with silk in it when I
got married. Soon after I found out about the allergy, so I stopped using it.
I had flared up bad on my honeymoon and stayed bad for awhile…but I also
wondered if that was the change in environment….I went to Costa Rica. Been
much better since then so I think those chemicals had to be a factor. I would
suggest allergy testing though, it may not be the same problem for everyone!
Thanks,
Sue

Hello,
A friend of mine invited me to a conference at kroger store. At the biggining I
was very skeptic, but I Went and it was about a product called Xango, It is a
juice. And it has curative properties for all kinds of maladies including
psoriasis. ( We saw a patient pictures before and after and it was interesting
to wee the improvements on psoriasis patients) I been fighting the disease for
seven years. However. The exponent was a R.Ph ( Registered Pharmacist) and he
explained the product using medical jargon he also mentioned opportunities,
about building a business it is MLM (multilevel Marketing) at the end of the
session I order one bottle for $ 32.00 I drank 4 ounces twice a day and lasted
one week. THe results are phenomenal I see that the patches on my back and legs
are no longer visible, the skin is not as thick as it was before. I had to
atribute the healing improvement to this products called Xango.
I am not a memeber of the organization yet, but appears to me that there is
something about this product that I haven’t experience before. More energy, less
itch, clear scalp. You just have to give it a try for yourself, because I don’t
know what that is.
If you have any questions please let me know, If I don’t have your answear my
friend who has lupus and kidney disfuction (also improving with xango) she could
give us an insight.
Thank you and I Hope that this info will help somebody. I am also including a
link for further and deeper look.

I tried Xango as well….didn’t help that I noticed and I think I got a few
bottles (4 maybe?). Anyway, a local rep got my number and kept calling me to
sell it…that was annoying.

I tried it on my skin but it didn’t help…..I have this huge expensive tub,
so maybe I will try it again. Does it leave your hair feeling greasy? and
does it get on clothes? (in case I want to try it as a conditioner since I
stopped using conditioner). Thanks.

It doesn’t leave my hair feeling greasy at all. I soak my hair completely,
then add the PVCO. I leave it for 10 minutes and then shampoo it out. The
shampoo is organic too. BTW, if I use take a tub bath, I add two tablespoons
of PVCO to the water.
Why didn’t it help. How did you use it on your skin. Did you bathe in it.

I put it on my hands and put cotton gloves on at bedtime. I was pregnant at
the time and my Dr. said not to ingest it. I mostly have flare ups on my
hands at least most recently.
I am about to move but I think when I get settled in I will try it as a
conditioner and on my hands again. In the bath sounds interesting. I was
taking
sea salt baths but stopped baths when I was pregnant. I can start them up
again now…
Thanks,

After Sue mentioning she is allergic to
Isothiazolinone( methychloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone) I
remembered when I was little (about 4 years old) I was getting eczema in my
pubic area as well as in the cracks of my lower ear lobes. I remember they
did one of those allergy "prick" tests where basically they give you a
zillion shots in your back of different allergens. I ended up being allergic
to Bubble bath. Strangely, bubble bath is soap in a concentrated form.
Mostly it is Sodium lauryl Sulfate or Ammonium Sulfate of some sorts. These
chemicals create bubbles and lather and are used in most liquid soaps,
shampoos and toothpaste.
Since I also have acne and have tried EVERY over the counter acne medication
and EVERY shampoo and conditioner I am going to try and go natural. I have
tried some natural soaps and shampoos before but some they say they are
natural still contain sulfates. I bought some Tom’s Of Maine Bar soap (Some
of their products contain sulfates but are plant derived) and it doesn’t
irritate my facial skin nearly as much as the acne products. I was thinking
maybe our skin is freaking out and producing too much oil (acne) and
or/overproducing skin cells (eczema) because we are allergic to a product we
use. I know cleaning the inside out helps too but this is just a thought.
Also, for everyone= Just because the products say they are natural does not
mean they are. Read products labels very carefully.
I also have used some Natural soaps that contained too much of an irritating
products such as citrus or grapefruit and it irritated my skin.

Sasha ~Do you put a shower cap on your head with the coconut oil?
SSMina~ Right before you use the Oil try to dilute the oil with water and
shake it up real good before you put it on your head so it won’t be as
greasy. It also depends on your hair type. I also have curly frizzy hair but
because I am white (well, a jewish-polish=israeli mutt of some sorts) my
hair follicle is fine and so it looks greasy. African-American hair can
absorb a lot of oil because of the heavy texture and it’s thicker.
