Scratching !!!

Hi:
My name is Phyllis and I’m new to this group…I was diagnosed with
eczema about 3 years ago and I’m in my 40’s !!! Lucky me…but this
skin disorder has just ruined my social life..I rarely go out, I feel I
am just one big scab !! My doctor gives me some kind of steroid cream
and non…I find the only thing that really helps is tanning and that
can get expensive…My main question would be, what can I do about the
scratching…My head is the worse..I’ve tried shampoos, T gels..it
doesn’t work…I also have so many scars on my legs, it is
pitiful…any insight would be greatly appreciated…

Thanks… :/

    Hi Phyllis,

That must be awful. I just have eczema on my hands and that’s bad
enough to drive me crazy. I’ve been reading everything I can, I’m
determined to beat this before it spreads.

I’ve been taking a combination of fish oil, flax seed oil and coconut
oil for about 6 weeks and I feel that it is really starting to help. It
was getting better, but I still had flare-ups of itchyness, so a couple
of days ago I increased the amount of oil I’m taking and I’ve been
nearly free of itchness since then. I’m still making adjustments to the
amount and types of oils to see what helps most.

    hope this helps

    Hi Phyllis!
We just were having a big discussion on scalp eczema. If you look at the
past posts from the last couple of weeks with the subject of "scalp eczema"
you may find some good info.

    Hi Phyllis-

What I have found to work for me when my skin becomes itchy is to add a box of
baking soda to my bath water. It is also very soothing to my skin when it is
raw and irratated due to an episode of uncontrollable scratching. Baking soda
is also helpful on dry patches or if your skin is flakey. After soaking in the
tub for awhile, lightly rub your skin with your finger tips in circular motions
and you’ll be amazed at how much dead skin will roll off. I think this dead
layer of skin is what contributes to alot of my itchiness.

As for your itchy head, you could try laying back in the bath water and submerge
your whole head. My scalp is one area that I generally don’t have problems with
(knock on wood!). But I do sometimes add a little baking soda to my shampoo to
help with styling product build-up. So I do know that it can’t hurt.

I also read somewhere to add baking soda to your facial cleanser for a gentle
exfolating facial scrub. I have yet to try this one.

I hope this helps. Good luck!
