Thanks so much

I just read all of the great ideas to help with the winter flare-ups,
i do have to say that some of them seem like they could really help! I
know about the whole stress trigging flare-ups thing.. believe me..
with what i go through in a day that could be half of my problem. I
will definatly try some of the ideas. Thanks for all the help! I’ll
keep you posted on my progress. Oh! Also is there anyone on here who
has eczema and is allergic to nickel? I wonder if the itching from
that could also cause my eczema to be worse? They both started about
the same time and I have scars from both. Thanks again!

Nickel allergy and eczema can definately be related.

"These research papers indicate that eczema sufferers may be helped by
avoiding the main food groups which tend to be high in nickel -
chocolate, nuts, beans, porridge oats - and that an allergy test or
food elimination diet are worth considering to help overcome the
    condition."

After nearly having everything under control my symptoms are worse
again. I’ll have to do more careful trials after the holiday, but right
now I strongly suspect 2 foods on the nickel list, chocolate and cashew
    nuts.

I noticed I am allergic to most spray on leave-in conditioners/detanglers
and noticed they all have Amodimethicone as one of the first ingredients. (I
get a rash on my neck) I found this web page about beauty product
ingredients and thought it would be useful:

hey! my name is shagufta and i’m new to the group. I use to have mild/moderate
eczema, but during the summer time, i tried to educate myself abour eczema, it
seemed my eczema has gotten more crazy..which absolutely sucks. it started with
itching at nightime…i never used to itch at night! it used to be the only time
i found relief..then i read about it and the next time it happened to me! also
it spread everywhere! i only used to have it on my arms and neck. now its on my
legs, face, and back as well. I have very bad eczema…My skin is dry often, and
sometimes too greasy stuff makes it itch crazily. I’ve used protopic but am
trying to get off of it…i’m pretty sure though, within a week I’ll be back on
it . I’m also using )on the severe itchy areas periodically) .1% kenlog injected
into vanicream prescribed by a dermatologist. It works pretty well too, but I
know i’ll get addicted to it if it works too well. I also know its a steroid,
but the dermatologist never told me how many
days i should use it for? i already have some stretch marks on my arms from
other steroid products i used in my early days with eczema…it worked so well

    iused it for 10+ days!

anyways righth now im using plain old petroleum jelly for treatment …but
like i said it gets too greasy which also triggers itching. i used to use
vaseline on my face but now my face is sore from pimples, scars and eczema. now
i use cetaphil. but my forehead is all wrinkly from itching..it sad..i’m under
20 and i look 30…no offense to anyone out there…and its deep line wrinkles,
around my eyes too. my skin is significantly darkened where i have eczema…

wearing gloves at night kind of helps i guess, but everytime i wake up they’re
always off. they help more when i’m awake because when i try to itch they’re on.
i’m going to try to drink black tea for the antioxidants & eat black cumin-i’m
muslim and i’ve heard that prophet muhammed (s.a.w) said that it cures any
disease except death. i’m also going to pray more..because it helps relax the
    mind.

does anyone have a good protopic plan…like for treatment how much to put on
for how many days & gradually introduce more creme and less protopic so my skin
doesn’t get addicted…i’d really apppreciate it.

I’ve been thinking about going to a naturopath…the dermatologists suck…all
of the ones where i’ve been too. does it get covered by insurance? do they
really help? I can remember that fateful day when i got eczema. ..its all
psycological. I remeber my yougner cuz got it on his arm..it the inside elbow
(like 2001/2002). I remebered getting it when i was younger…way younger like
when i was 10…so it must’ve triggered it somehow.. i don’t know. it sounds
crazy but that’s what happened. i just hope it gets better they way it came
    swift..w/o warning.

well thax for hearing my sob story, and sorry for being so random…plz feel
    free to write comments,

Going by what I read here and other web sites, dermatologists only
dispense creams and lotions and don’t address the dietary issues. The
skin can only reflect what’s going on inside the body. I feel the
answers have to be in what we eat (allergies) or don’t eat
    (deficiencies in EFAs or vitamins).

I wish I had paid more attention to nutrition when I was younger. But
it really seemed like I could get away with eating anything and it
really made no short term difference to how I felt. So I just ate
whatever I wanted to. Now that I’m older (50) I think my poor diet
choices have finally caught up with me.

I have eczema and am allergic to chemicals found in lots of shampoos and hair
care products….also sensitve to cobalt and I cannot wear fake jewelry, not
sure if it’s nickel but anything fake irritates me. I used to get infections
on my earlobes when I was younger from earrings. Now I only wear silver or
white gold (or regular gold). I am also sensitive to latex components and
    elastic…
