Newbie here
Hi everyone! I am coming out of here out of desperation, since no
doctor I have seen seems to come up with anything to help me much,
except the steriod creams I have been using off and on for a few
years. My finger has been so bad for about 4 years. It grows skin
layer after skin layer, and it is a little better but it is still
impossible to bend the joint in the middle of it.
I will be reading your posts with great interest.
I’m glad to be a part of your group. Maybe I will learn something
about this condition. One dermatologist looked at it for a second and
said "Eczema", but none of the rest could agree.
Thanks, Barb

Hi Barb and to all the others new on this group. I a Heidi. I have
a little boy (2) that has a genetic disorder called Ectodermal
Dysplasia. He suffers from extreme eczema. He is really bad in the
cold and heat. He gets specific patches on his knees, face, wrists,
ankles, and feet. He would get it so bad that he would scratch until
he bled.
We have used all kinds of steroids and have found some relief with
them. I do not like to use them for their is a prolonged use effect.
We have finally found a entire household regime that has taken care
of 80% of the problem. I became a customer of a wellness company
called Melaeuca. They have a skin care system (all natural) that I
use. A lotion called renew creme along with specific soaps and
oils. I also got rid of all the "tide and lysol" types of cleaners.
It has worked for us and Aiden. I have before and after photos of
his face if anyone is interested. I can also provide more info on
how to see if the products would work for you. He is my true success
story and I have the happy little man to show for it!
Happy New year!
Heidi

Hi Barb,
I’ve got it on my hands as well. It started with an outbreak once in
July, which went away. Then recurrant patches on my fingers since
September. Recently, I found 2 things I sometimes eat which make it a
lot worse, chocolate and cashews (probably any nuts would do the same).
I’m taking Fish oil, flax seed oil and coconut oil everyday. The
coconut oil in particular seems to be helpful short term in reducing
itchyness — Both eating the oil and applying it directly to the skin.
The rest of the oils at least have improved my overall dry skin on my
face and body. I think I was severly deficient in EFAs because of
the "low fat" diet I was trying to follow before. ( Bad idea, that.)
Some people have found that GLA containing oils to help, I tried borage
oil and it didn’t help me, in fact, I think it made things worse. If I
get up the courage to do so, sometime I’ll try it once more to see if
it really was the oil rather than something else I ate.

I have also been through the same experience and paid a fortune trying
to get a resolution, even a correct diagnosis for my condition.
I have found fish oil capsules very good for me as all topical
applications flare it up.
