Please stay away from steroids!!!

Saturday, June 17th, 2006

Your body eventually just break down and make your eczema worse. Thank
God I only used steroid creams for 3 years now compared to people who
used it for a lifetime. I have cleaned u p my act and started taking
omega 3 oils and cleaning my diet. I still eat chocolates here and
there and some bread but not as much like I used to. Visit Shirley’s
Wellness Cafe. get what you want from it. It makes alot of sense.
Your body is trying to tell you something. Clean up your act!!!
Steroids just hides the problem!!! Let your body heal. I wish I have
read it way before. I see the difference on my hands. I still have
deep cracks but overall my hands are healing. Wish me luck.

Support Groups in South Bend, Indiana

Thursday, June 15th, 2006

Thank you for acceptance into the group. I suffer from an awful form
of eczema known as seborrheic dermatitis. It occurs on my face. I am
wondering if there is anyone from South Bend that knows of any support
groups in our area. The condition has brought on an awful level of
depression and I could definitely benefit from having others to talk
and meet with. Thanks.

Chris

Hi everyone!

Wednesday, June 14th, 2006

I had eczema for about over three years now. It pretty much took
away my social life. It controlled what I would do. As a kid, I
always had allergies but it was just a little rash here and there
and I got to control it with lotion. As I entered my 30s, I noticed
I had dry patches of skin on my hands. I never thought about it as
being anything serious (little that I know). It kept progressing.
It got worse and worse this happened around when my father was ill
with lung cancer. I am sure the stress and having a new job with a
crazy boss didn’t help either as I have read that stress can worsen
your eczema. Now my hands don’t even look like hands anymore. It
has water bubbles underneath the skin and cracks which are painful.
My life has been a complete hell eversince. It is like having a
disease and not knowing what to do with it. For over two years, I
overdosed on steroid creams. I was so desperate already. I kept
putting it on like it was lotion. Even tho my mom (a nurse) told me

cradle cap?

Monday, June 12th, 2006

My 3 month old is starting to have dryness on his scalp. It started in the
middle and seems to have expanded some. I noticed him scratching it lately and
I am hoping it is only temporary. I don’t know if it is cradle cap or
eczema. He has had dryness on his eyebrows that look like eczema. He had a dry
cheek one day but then that went away. I am just hoping he does not inherit
eczema from me. His daddy used to have dry scalp, so maybe he is doomed for one
or the other!

What do you put on a baby’s scalp? I trimmed his nails as short as I could
get them. He did try to scratch again but at least he can’t do much damage
with no nails. His nails grow so fast though! I try to trim them anyway as he
scratches his face (always has).

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Suggestion for Dry Scalp/Hair Loss

Monday, June 12th, 2006

Has anyone ever heard of or tried Nioxin Scalp Therapy for dry, ichy
scalp? My grandfather loved using the shampoo and conditioner not only
because it soothed and helped heal his scalp, but he also swore that
once he began using it, he no longer noticed any hair loss in his
shower drain. I believe it is intended for those experiencing hair
loss or thinning hair. It is supposed to rid the scalp of follicle-
clogging toxins and stimulate the scalp.
Just a suggestion, although I can’t speak from first-hand experience.

patch testing

Sunday, June 11th, 2006

You know I was looking over my medical file yesterday and noticed that I did
react to Nickel as well as other chemicals. I had forgotten that, but it’s
something I avoid anyway (well as in fake jewelry). I just had no idea it could
be in foods!? Some other things I reacted to when patch tested were, cobalt
and components in latex (thiuram mix), interesting as I tested both positive
and negative in blood tests for latex. I usually say I am allergic to be safe.
In a former post I mentioned the allergy to isothiazolinone (also called
methylisothiazolinone). And yet another allergy is quaternium which the
paperwork specifically says contact with this may result in dermatitis. Even
another
I reacted to was Phenylenediamine (common in hair dye).
Anyway there are so many synonyms to these chemicals it would be hard for me
to look out for them all, I would be reading labels all day and night! Not
to mention there is no way I can remember all the synonyms to look out for.
But I do avoid common things associated with these and look out for

New to group with a question

Friday, June 9th, 2006

Hi everyone. I have suffered from contact dermatitis of my left hand
for years. Dermatologists concluded a nickel allergy. None of the
creams prescribed have worked and I’d really like to go natural
instead of use the steroid creams. I was wondering is anyone found a
good herb combination or ointment that has helped or even a
combination of herbal pills to take. I currently take supercritical
antioxidants to boost detoxification and am considering taking some
fatty acid supplement. I’d just like to find out what other people are
doing. Any help would be appreciated.
