Dry skin on face
I just wanted to share with everyone that recently I found tartar control
toothpaste to contribute to the dry, flakey, and sometimes cracked skin on my
face. Once I switched to a less abrasive kind, the cracks in the corners of my
mouth healed. I also discovered that even though I may be saving time by
brushing my teeth in the shower, it was what was causing my lips and chin to
become so dry. In the shower I tend to be a lot messier when brushing my teeth,
allowing the toothpaste to get all over my face and run down my chin. Tartar
control toothpaste is too abrasive and would irritate my skin and dry it out
further.
Hope someone finds this to be helpful!

I get those cracks on the corners of my lips also. I believe it is a sign of
Candida overgrowth. Now I use Collodial Silver and Biotene toothpaste and
mouthwash for dry mouth) and it’s almost completely gone. Most name brand
toothpastes contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.

Alison,
For quite some time I have suspected a candida overgrowth to be a
major contributing factor not only to my eczema, but to other health
problems I have been experiencing. Thanks for some reassurance. How
do you personally go about treating this? Also, how do you
accurately test for an overgrowth being that our bodies naturally
have some level of candida present at all times?
Anyone else’s comments are welcomed too. Thanks for your help!

I first found about it on this list and have just been reading
different info on websites. If you look in the archives of this list (it
wasn’t that long ago) we were talking about Candida overgrowth (Subject line
says Candida). I’m sure there are other people on this list who could tell
you more about it as I don’t know a whole lot about it.
It seems when I eat bread or products with yeast my eczema gets worse. I
also have a digestive problem which is either colitis, irritable bowel or
something else.
Interestingly enough, my grandfather could not handle bread dough or his
hands would break out in eczema. Also, my mother and I have eczema in the
same place on the back of our neck. I think stress has a lot to do with it
also because I was super stressed when all my problems started. It has also
been documented by doctors that stress is a contributor to eczema.
These links are informative:

There are many ways to treat candida overgrowth. Normal is to have
15% candida and 85% good bacteria. Most people are exactly reversed.
I have tried all sorts of things for staying balanced and having
worked for an alternative doctor I learned a lot!
She used homeopathy because it reaches far into the body. Many people
who have done anti-Candida diets by removing all food for the bacteria
like sugar, yeast, etc will have the Candida in their inner organs
(they search for food when they don’t get it in the digestive tract).
Only homeopathy is effective in removing it. She recommended still
eating a small amount of fruit to maintain a bit of sugar in the
bowels to avoid this problem while killing off the candida by various
means.
Garlic will kill off yeast as will some other things like grapefruit
seed extract.
I have found that the easiest and most cost effective way to balance
the bacteria is taking In-Liven. It’s a probiotic superfood and you
can either do a cleanse for 10 days with it and really kill off things
quickly while nourishing your body with enzymes, amino acids and good
bacteria. You can also just take the maintenance dose of one spoon a
day and it will be a little gentler but slower. In-Liven will also
give the body a lot of energy once the candida die-off occurs.
I believe that all skin conditions except perhaps for some extreme
cases of allergy are related to bowel health and toxicity. Before I
knew about In-Liven I got rid of a large patch of fungus on my leg by
doing Aqua Chi treatments (4). It’s an ionic footbath that charges
the cells with energy and causes the cells to detoxify through the
feet.
If interested in either of these things, just email me and I will send
you some info. I don’t think this group takes files or else I would
post them but they are in PDF format.

I’d just like to inform everyone that even if a product says it’s "Natural"
doesn’t mean it is. The term "Natural" is loosely used.
Even when I went to my Natural Food store I noticed a lot of the "natural"
products contained petroleum derivatives. (Like Dimethicone, methylparabens,
etc…)
PLEASE always read the ingredients! This will save you time and money! The
only product line I have seen at the stores that has mostly natural
ingredients is Aubrey Organics. Some products may say "No artificial Colors"
but then they use artificial ingredients. Educate yourself and you will save
time and money.

I just purchased their Shampoo and Conditioner and am very happy with it.
The shampoo is a bit like Dr. Bronners (but not as drying) however if you
use their conditioner that goes with it you will have great results. I
bought their White Camellia Ultra Smoothing Shampoo/Conditioner for Dry,
unruly and coarse hair and am very happy with the results. I tried using
Coconut Oil in the shower before but it was too greasy for my hair. These
products contain Coconut Oil but are but half as greasy.
I am white/Jewish but have very fair skin and fine super curly, dry, snarly
hair. This products actually DETANGLED and conditioned my hair. It’s a
miracle! My scalp eczema doesn’t seem as flaky either but it’s only been 3
days.
Keep in mind you do not have to Shampoo your hair everyday. I usually only
do it ever other day. However, I always rinse my hair and put conditioner in
it.
It seems traditional shampoos at your local store not only contain
artificial/petroleum based products but they also coat your hair with what
they call "moisture". This so-called "moisture" is actually just a bunch of
petrol/chemicals and artificial ingredients. It’s kind of scary when you
think about it because these chemicals soak into your scalp.
Also: Just because you are happy with some products from a line doesn’t mean
the whole line of products is great. For instance: Burt’s Bees. They make
good salves and lip balms but some of their products contain sodium lauryl
sulfate and other unwanted ingredients.

Hi Sharon,
Yes, I am very interested in information about In-Liven & Aqua Chi Treatments. I
am a Holistic Health counselor with psoriasis and I use myself as a guinea pig
to help others.
I agree completely that skin conditions are caused by toxicity, especially in
the bowels. I have had psorisasis for 32 years and definitely see a connection
between my intake of sugar/starchy foods and the condition of my skin. I have
gone on various fasts which make a difference, although not always right away.
( Arise & Shine is a good one).
I also think sensitivity to chemicals in home & personal products is a
contibuiting factor. I was happy to see Melaleuca mentioned recently since I
just ordered some of their products - the mositurizer, bath products laundry
detegent etc. (I am sure Tide is a bad idea!) I have had success with Tea Tee
Oil, so believe their products may be very helpful.
I found this message board very recently and love it - there is a wealth of
pertinent information on alternative remedies. I have sort of been lurking, but
I want to thank everyone for sharing so much wonderful information and ideas.
