New to Group and Desperate
Hello to everyone….
I have just joined in desperation. Six months ago there was no rash
on my left leg. Over the past six months, the rash was biopsied and
viewed by four from the dermatology medical community and tried on
several medications. It has grown every month from a 1×1 inch spot
into one that is red and inflamed and raised though not particularly
watery… until is has covered essentially 12×8 on my lower leg and
maybe 9 somewhat circular spot on my right leg. I no longer feel
like I know what to do and I can’t even seem to find a diagnosis.
I am a young 62 and healthy except for this unstoppable waxing and
waning where the rash seemss to start going away and then every 4 to
6 days it increases into a cycle of some kind where it takes on a
life of its own usually enlarging each time. Help!
I am desparate in what to do. Does anybody know a good doctor in San
Diego? What discipline should I need see? Allergy? Internist?
Rheumatology? An unusual disease specialist? A rare mite specialist?
Could it be chemical sensitivity? Other? The labs simply said it was
simply seborreah dermatitis or one of the innoucous nonspecific
differential diagnoses. What drugs or homeopathics are recommend?
Any guiding thoughts for a dynamic woman who feels pushed against
the wall who wants to begin hiding if she can’t get this under
control…..

What did they tell you when they did the biopsy? Did they give it a name?
Is it a red rash with raised bumps? Does it itch?
Here are some key questions:
-Have you started any new medication before the rash developed?
-Did you change your laundry detergent?
-Did you start to eat different foods?
-Have you started wearing different clothing?
-Did you start using a different bath soap or shampoo?
-Have you moved into a different house/apartment? (The water could be bad)
If you started a new medication right before the rash developed it may be an
allergy to the medication. I’m not trying to make you paranoid but try and
think of anything that changed right before the rash developed. Also, it
could be stress related. Good Luck!

Another thing I have noticed lately~
While many of the new types of clothing textures (ex. "stretch shirts",
"stretch jeans" are comfortable, make sure and look for what the clothing is
actually made of. Many of the cheap stuff is made with a cotton/polyester
blend. Polyester is BAD for sweating. I just realized the jeans I buy are a
polyester/cotton mix. (I was wondering why I was getting rashes on my legs!)
Always look for a lycra/spandex/cotton mix. I noticed that other clothing,
such as tops, also has cotton/poly blends. Aach! I thought we got rid of it
in the 1970’s!

Wow - that sounds really incredible. What have you been trying? I woudl also
suggest starting the way that I have suggested to anybody - look at EVERYTHING
you are exposed to on a regular basis - anything that you are consuming
regularly and if there were any changes, any kinds of chemicals or any changes
in your environment.
I wish I could suggest more - but do you have any sense of what might be
causing it? Any suspicions at all?
