Vaseline
Someone posted about using water on your skin and then using minute
portions of Vaseline. Has anyone tried this? I’ve done this for only 2
days and my skin is much worse. Is this something that gets worse before
it gets better. So tired of dealing with all of this Always think I have
the answer and then it starts up again.

not when you use vaseline - i dont use anything i cant eat on my skin - i use
coconut oil - although i dont watch my diet - i take supplements - ok i sound
like a broken record - i take ten capsules of evening primrose oil and
in-liven probiotic. things get worse b4 they get better - i started taking
omega
oils beginning of this year and started the probiotic 5 months ago and i am just
seeing results - it works but the healing is SLOW just be patient and it is
different for everyone.

i had always heard that vaseline will aggravate
eczema. it does not feel good on my skin. there is no
breathability. what is vaseline anyways?
i use pure shea butter when i want a thick greasy
emollient. it is natural. it wors well at locking
moisture in.
we are all different in our chemistry. someones poisin
could be anothers cure.
(also lanolin & mineral oil are supposed to be bad
for eczema)
April 22nd, 2007 at 7:28 am
you kinda sound like a sales person for in-liven
April 22nd, 2007 at 12:16 pm
no i am not a sales person. i was even approached by a sales rep and i didnt
reply - im just sharing what works for me - it bothers me why people always
have to pick on others - u think i dont know what is like to have eczema - i
have severe eczema on my hands that i couldnt even bend them - when i started
using it - it became a lot less painful - so im just here trying to help and if
u
have read my past posts - i always said try this on your own - i am not here
to sell - i swear u try to help and u get slapped in the face - i even at one
point went off on someone selling products to benefit himself

I did have an experience where I was itching so bad and I did the water
and vaseline and my itching stopped and the rash disappeared. I do
remember that you were only supposed to use a tiny amount of the
vaseline. I’d like to stick with this for a couple of weeks if I can
since nothing else works. I’ve kept a list of what I’ve eaten and can
see nothing there that is a trigger. I wish they’d come up with
something on this frustrating condition. I’ve only had to deal with this
the last year but it’s just been so annoying. Before that, I was only
about 11 and had to go to school with my hands wrapped up because it was
so bad. After that, it was just a rash on my hands that could be
controlled if I used gloves and cream. Don’t know what got it activated
again. Aveeno with oatmeal has helped but it still flares up so that I
have to use steroids. Luckily if I use steroids about once a week I can
control it but would like not to use them at all.

Yeah - VERY hard to figure out will work and what won’t. Strangely, since I’ve
moved apartments, my eczema has really calmed down.
As for vaseline - I don’t think it’s a good idea. Something that is breathable
is good, but watch out and be aware of anything that bothers your skin at all,
even slightly. I know if I use something with Lanolin in it, my skin will start
having problems within a few days. It gets to be more scabby and scalelike - if
I am using the right things, imy body is more tolerant.
I am doing well using Burt’s Bees stuff right now, especially the hand salve.
Not all products are good for me, tho’.

sorry patganda. i wasn’t intending to slap you in the

anyone but themselves.
i have had the horrible hand thing as well—-very
painful and disturbing to ones peace of mind.

Yeah, Pat’s been on here for a long while and has always been very helpful and
insightful. It’s when people just show up suddenly and start schilling
something that I get annoyed.
As for getting aggravated and sending off some annoyed emails, I’m a pro.

Thank you Keith - I really appreciate it. If you want to save money I did
say to check Vitacost.com. You can save a lot on supplements. I am so lucky
I live in Florida since Vitacost is about an hour away from me. I get it
next day delivery with regular mail!

We’ve done such a nice job avoiding a lot of flaming and battles on this board
and it would be great to be able to keep that up. Intent is really tough to
figure with email - how many of us have sent out jokes that the other side did
NOT see as funny? Happens to me all the time.
As for smug, I’m not so sure. If something is working, you do feel good about
it and may want others to get it too. I have been in too much pain for too long
with all of this and things are going well for me right now. I’m not totally
sure about everything or how it keeps happening, but I know that a lot of the
ideas I got to make my condition better I got on this board. For the
overwhelming majority, everyone’s been helpful.
Sometimes, the message doesn’t get delivered the way you want it. This
condtition is f-ing torture, to put it plain. I think we have all been brought
low by it. I hope we can just help each other out.
[PLEASE excuse the rant. Getting off soapbox now.]
Jasvindar, what’s worked for you?

I think that we all want to get better and we only
want advice that is real and not sales talk. I have
spent alot of money on products & believed that they
would work because the advertising said so or the
sales people said so & most of the time they did not
work. Those sales people tend to prey on people at
sites like these. Sometimes it is difficult to tell
who is for real and who isn’t. It is even more
difficult to tell if a product will work for you just
because it worked for someone else. We have to almost
be like detectives, or psychics!
April 25th, 2007 at 12:02 pm
Absolutely true. I have no idea if Pat’s stuff would do me any good - really,
I’ve had a hard time figuring out what will & won’t work. Coconut oil, for
example, was great for me for about a month and then suddenly, it was the worst
thing in the world for me. Still is, really.
Man oh man, I hate when salespeople get on this board. I don’t care what
they’re selling. Maybe people can tell us what food they’re eating or not? I
need to change something and I could use some more ideas.

well i havent been great with my diet. my sister also has it on the palm of
her hands but hers disappeared but she does eat much better than i do plus she
takes more supplements. she takes alive vitamins and another type of
probiotics which i am sure she orders from vitacost.com. i am don’t know the
name so
i will have to get it from her. i am sure mine should have healed awhile
back but i just haven’t been good in eating the right foods. i think coffee
aggravates my skin the worse. i used to drink coffeee every morning but i quit
well maybe i drink once a week. as for my sister, i think she eats alot of
organic food. she even buys organic beef and chicken. when she eats regular
chicken, she breaks out. it sucks that this condition is different for everyone
so what works for me might not work for others. i am not here to sell
anything. i tried that product because i was desperate and i have to tell you
that
that thing ain’t cheap so i feel for people who are on a budget. i am single
with no kids so i can play around with my expenses more but i do recommend
vitacost.com. they don’t have everything but they do carry a huge selection. i
am
not a sales rep for any of these people. i have been approached to give a
testimonial and even that i didnt do but i should since i do think the in-liven
probiotic did help so much. i had a quick reaction. i am not sure why it
cleared up two weeks after i took it but it did come back and it just been
healing for about 3 weeks now. my guess is that my body reacted to it then it
began
to heal. i dunno you know how it goes since nobody heck knows about this
condition. it could be candida. you just have to be patient. i ate alot of
junk my whole life. i am 33 so i don’t think i can solve the problem in a week
or in a month but i do feel a difference on my hands. i can finally even file
paperwork in my office. it just got to the point i couldn;t even type. now i
can type and bend it altho it still aint pretty as i want to be but my hands
are about 50% clear compared to before i had cracks everywhere to my fingers.
my hands start by having water bubbles then it dries out and peels off then
it cracks which is the worse part so it your symptom is similar to mine i hope
you try in-liven coz this worked for me so far. my hands are getting better
now for about 3 weeks and i have been taking it in may. it hasnt gotten worse.
my fingers have no cracks anymore just the side of my palms and where my
thumbs meet my hand thats about it. i had it on my feet too since i was 10 but
that healed now. the only thing that keeps me from healing is probably if i eat
better food and quit picking and scratching on it but at least now i dont
scratch at night as much as i used to. i hope this info helps anyone. i really
based on what i do on shirley’s page. i did stop taking that awful oil
(flaxseed). whoever said that that has some kind of buttery taste must be
kidding.
i still take evening primrose oil but i am not sure if this works but i dont
think taking omega oils wont hurt and it isnt that bad of a price for like 20
bucks for 300 capsules.

K,
We avoid dairy, meat, sugar (and anything sugar-related like
alcohol) and caffeine, MSG, aspartame, and just about anything with
additives. These are the worst offenders.
Don’t hate salespeople please! If not for salespeople I would
probably be dead or close to it. I got rid of every health problem
I had thanks to various salespeople and not a single one thanks to
my doctors (except the holistic ones). Pat would still be suffering
if someone had not sold her In-Liven (I wrote about it here but she
didn’t buy from me). I have spent a lot of money trying to get
well. A lot of things are free like EFT which often helps with skin
problems. Many are caused by emotions (see www.emofree.com). Some
people get headaches from stress, some break out in excema or
psoriasis. Hatred, lack of forgiveness and resentment will cause
energy blockages which lead to disease and the body will never heal
itself if this is harbored.
Sometimes it’s bacteria imbalance and I don’t know of any other
probiotic that works like In-Liven because it’s the only one that
has ALL the bacteria that the body needs. Skin problems are caused
by liver or bowel imbalances. This is something I learned when I
was working for a doctor. Treating with lotions isn’t going to get
rid of a skin condition because it doesn’t get to the cause. I’ve
spent countless hours typing on my computer to tell this to people
and have not made one cent on this group.
You should care what people are selling because you state you need
to make changes. You might actually get rid of your condition if
you are open-minded (I’m sure you will not buy from my website after
this honest opinion and that’s fine with me since I am not looking
to build a huge business here….I’d be waiting a long time with
this group!). All the diets in the world can’t help if you don’t
have correct bacteria in your bowels. My daughter did every therapy
I ever heard about and nothing helped until In-Liven. Research
probiotics please! We were not sold In-Liven. I was searching the
net for organic cosmetics and ordered it from the same company and
had amazing results. It truly changed my daughter’s life. I’m
sorry if I offended you or anyone else but it helped Pat so it was
worth my time. I also received an email from someone else who
bought elsewhere and they also got an excellent result. There are
testimonials on the website about skin conditions as well.
BTW, my repairman has a really bad case of psoriasis and he swears
by coconut oil. It’s the only thing he can tolerate on his skin.
You likely need to supplement with some essential fatty acids as
well like borage or hemp or cod liver oil or whatever you can
tolerate.

Just my 2 cents. My doc. advised me against using petroleum products. First of
all, they block the skin from "breathing" in a way. Second, many people can
react to these products. I stopped using Cetaphil on my face and switched to a
more "natural" cream by Jason that has no petro. My face is looking better.

I’ve been using the Aveeno on it again. I’ll see what happens.

I have been reading the following books,
Healing Psoriasis: The Natural Alternative by Pagano
Toxic Relief by Don Colbert
Invisible Illnesses by Gloria Gilbere
It appears they are all saying (like this post below) that the problem
with Eczema are toxin buildup in the livers and colon, which can only
be solved by diet, colon cleansing, and different other remedies.
However, can any answer my question: If it is a case of liver/colon
toxic buildup, then why is that my eczema only flares up during
certain times of the year–mostly winter and spring? It seems to me
that my eczema is caused more by stress, weather, and allergies more
than anything.
Thoughts anyone?
I have a hard time subduing myself to all these diets, expensive
supplements when at my core it doesn’t make sense to me.
Please, please, if you respond, please send me a quick email as I
don’t always check, so that I know to check this board as often as I like.

Hello everyone,
Dealing with the eczema of my dougther for 3 years, the first year was not so
bad, the second year I almost got crazy with the allergies, and the itching, and
no help with any of the doctor that we visited, but the third year we found and
allergist that have eczema and with a diet and some supplements it improve a
lot….
But I just went to Bolivia and took my dougther to a pediatrician, and this
doctor explain in very simple words, that my dougther has the eczema and her
skin will be dry and itchy some times but if she has allergies just try to find
out to what and avoid it for a while ……and gave us this lotion eucerin ph 5
………I did not see so much improvement rigtth a way but one month later I
see her hands were the worst improve a lot…she still have very dry skin, but
she is not itchy like crazy, we still avoiding (dairy, soy, eggs, peanuts,
chiken) but lately she star eating wheat and cord and had no reacion…Maybe
this will help to somebody.

Interesting. I was down in Bolivai for a while myself. Is there any chance
that you changed the kind of foods you were eating, as well as drinks? I’d also
look into water quality (Bolivian water may well not be chlorinated) and any
soaps or creams you may have used while you were down there.
I went thru a long stage of being incredibly aggravated all the time and
ANYTHING I ate was bothering me, just about. Now that my skin is calmer, I’m
able to eat other things and I am happier about it. I still have to watch out
for soaps andd lotions - I can’t use anything with lanolin, but I can wear wool
now, for example.

Perhaps, Yehudis, it is the stress, weather, and allergies that are the final
straw on your organs. Thus tipping them over their capacity for toxins (stress
and allergies create toxins) and triggering the skin response.
Ihave psoriasis and I totally "get" how hard it tis to stick to the diet. I
struggle with it myself, but sadly - it really does work.

I will say that when I stopped drinking cow’s milk, my problems greatly
decreased. I still have flare-ups, especially when I’m stressed (maybe the body
can’t deal with the toxins when I’m stressed). I notice my daughter also has
flare-ups when she’s stressed.
Funny thing is I can eat all the yogurt and cheese I want and it won’t bother
me. In conjunction, I also noticed my IBS symptoms disappeared when I stopped
drinking milk. Perhaps it’s something to do with the antibiotics and hormones
in cow’s milk? I haven’t tried drinking organic cow’s milk to see if that makes
a difference. I’ve lost my taste for milk.

What does this tecnique entail? You moisten the skin and then rub
vaselina all over it? Is this for eczema or psoriasis?
May 8th, 2007 at 6:57 pm
Hi, I a new member, in my early 70s. Have had serious excema for the
past year, have no idea why - could it be my stomach?
In September 2005 I got a nasty bug bite on my forearm that swelled up
and took a couple of months to heal. Then I started getting
incredibly itchy bumps like flea bites, on my arms, then my legs,
shoulders, back, and chest. And rashes, too. Which I could not help
scratching to try to stop the terrible tingling.
The first doctor I went to was my primary provider as they call them.
He recommended Anti-allergy tablets and and steroids, which I don’t do.
The next doctor I saw was a well-known dermatologist who doesn’t take
new patients but took me since my brother-in-law is a patient.
I saw him 4 times, each time he gave me a new kind of skin cream,
most were cortisone, I used them but none helped.
So he sent me to another GP, who recommended a CT scan of my abdomen,
and visit to a rheumatologist. That was two more doctors!
The CT scan didnt show anything (that doctor was looking for Lymphoma)
theRhematologist didnt find any problems. The bloodwork was normal.
Next doctor: a new dermatologist. She prescribed claritin.
The claritin has helped in that: It is holding back new lesions.
However I still have lots of the old lesions. Itchy red spots that
never heal. So itchy they have all been scratched to bleeding sores.
When the sores heal to leave a red scar, the scar is just as itchy as
the original sore and will not go away.
After 5 doctors I am almost at square zero. I changed soaps, skin
creams, and shampoo, went to Florida for 3 weeks where the air is
very humid, went to Arizona where the air is very dry, poured a box of
borax on my matress, spread it around, left it for 4 days before I
vacummed it up, in case I was getting flea or bedbug! bites.
I eat mostly organic, local products. all our veggies and fruit are
from our garden. Do not drink any kind of soda or go to fast food places.
Started using Noxema to stop the itch a couple months ago, along with
chickweed salve. Noxema works as well for me as cortizone creams for
temporary relief. The chickweed salve helps but does not heal the
lesions.
Does my problem sound familiar/ any advice of where to go from here?
thanks for listening, sorry this is so long.

I am also in my early 70s but I have had exzema for 20
years. The first several years it was very mind but
it just keep getting worse. Just like you it is on my
legs, chest stomach back, etc. I have tried the
following: Elidel and hydrocortisone cream ( help the
itching) but little else. Castile soap. Nothing.
Various creams. Nothing. Resumed allergy shots I
once took. Nothing. Got rid of a foam mattress and
got a new regular one. Nothing. Use Dove soap.
Nothing. I am about to start using thevarious
over=the-counter things like evining primrose, etc to
see ifthey help. Any other suggestions fro you fellow
sufferers?

Please, look at any food allergies you might have-get a blood test. This is the
primary cause for eczema. Also, a good pharmeceutical grade fish oil, flax oil
or ground flax, and other sources of Omega-3’s. And cut out Omega 6’s- which are
found in a lot of "bad" oils.

Try juicing - it has relieved a lot of my son’s itching. Carrot juice is best
but I mix it with apples for him. I had to get a juicer but it was worth it!
We can finally sleep through the night.

Yes, I also juice! Leafy greens are great for cleansing the blood and the
system. I use carrots also, but I know some that have candida (strongly assoc.
w /eczema) and can’t do carrots b/c they are high sugar content and cause them
to itch. But if you can handle them, I think its great nutitionally.

I am disgusted, disappointed, angry. everyone said - "YOU should See a
Doctor about that excema. "
SO
I did
and eventually five of them, including one dermatologist that I saw
4 times. Only one of these doctors showed any interest in knowing the
cause of my itchy sores. She sent me for a CT scan & to a
rheumatologist and when nothing was found, that was the end of that.
How in the world is it that you can go to a doctor for a health
problem, well a doctor’s visit sure is NOT CHEAP. ……….Three of
these doctors are 35 miles away from us…………
and they simply do not even attempt to find a cause or
cure!!!!!!!!!!!! & quick to usher you out the door.
Why wouldn’t I just go see the Dr, hand them my check and go home.
Save an hour and a half in the waiting room & the exam room waiting
for nothing more than another cortisone prescription. GRR
BTW Neither the two primary care doctors nor the 2 dermatologists
suggested allergy tests.

She has psoriasis–she would wet her eyes with water and then rub the vaseline
on the affected area (the lower rims of her eyes). It didn’t take long and it
was totally gone and has not re appeared for over a year now! For eczema I’m a
big fan of Elidel-
What does this technique entail? You moisten the skin and then rub
vaselina all over it? Is this for eczema or psoriasis?
