Hi I'm Patricia from Portugal. I suffer from atopic dermatitis and I
tried steroids wich have worked for me, but not on the long run, as
they made flares happen again, and I tried protopic (I'm not sure if
there the name is the same) and then I tried a doctor who was at the
same time naturopath, iridologist and homeopath. She told me that the
skin problems where related to liver problems. At the time my meals
consisted most on bread with chocolate milk. She said in the first
consultation that my body was very acidic, because my digestion wasn't
funcioning very well and my body only absorbed acids and toxins. If I
had waited longer I probably woud have developed psoriasis. She took
milk and derivatives out of my food, and told me to eat soup, not to
eat acidic fruits and vegetables like tomatoes, oranges and
strawberrys, these two only if they were really sweet, and prescribed
me some natural remedies. I do not know the names in english, but I
can tell you them in portuguese: "cardo-mariano" wich is good for
<!--more-->
liver I think it's a species of artichoke but with flower, "pau de
arco" wich is the "skin" of an african tree and others wich I can't
remember the names. I felt good with that and to be honest I never had
rashes and flares as I used to have before being diagnosed.
About the milk derivatives, only a note to say that last week I ate
fresh cheese (I don't know if you have something like that but it's
like goat or sheep milk cheese, before it's cure or drying) and my
palatina vault (is that it) started swelling and itching...I'm
allergic to cheese :(

Dear Noelani Y

Thank you for the email dated 6.1.2007. Well, thank God just to share with
you my eczema has improved recently after I start to take health products.
It's worth to invest on health products. I feel so much comfortable now and
it also improve my stamina and overall being. Of course I sleep better than
ever. Perhaps you can try. Believe me. It is my fervent hope that all the
people with skin problem will get well soonest.

Do keep in touch

Thank you

Hi Kerry! Ain't that the truth - stay away from chinese food - they thicken
their food with corn starch. I am massively allergic to corn (sinus allergies),
so I can't say how it affects my skin. But lately I have been staying away from
grains (seeds in general, really), and my skin is much, much improved.

I avoid any legume that comes in a pod (peanuts, peas, green beans, soy beans,
coffee, chocolate, chick peas), and ALL whole grains or flours. The only seed
food I eat regularly is WHITE rice. No possibility of being a vegetarian for
me. I eat meat, fleshy and leafy fruits & veges, flowers (broccoli,
cauliflower), rhizomes (bulbs that grow underground like carrots, onions, etc.),
tree nuts, and dairy.

It's tough, though, and I slip up a lot. (Chocolate and coffee, as you can
imagine.) But maybe it's worth a try for some of you out there...
<!--more-->

I really wonder if my case is unique, or if this type of diet would be
effective for anyone else. If anyone has any reactions (positive or negative
or neutral), I would really be interested in hearing about it. We really have
to help ourselves here, because the doctors can't do a damn thing for us.
